When I first walked in, the decor made me think it was one of those higher-end Hong Kong cafés, so I honestly didn’t expect much from the food. The menu had a lot of options, which usually makes me cautious.
I ordered the spicy flat rice noodle with beef and a spicy soup noodle, along with a few other items. Everything was surprisingly good. The noodles were flavorful but not oily or overly salty, and every dish was well balanced.
The prices are reasonable, and the free milk tea and coffee are a nice bonus.
After that first visit, I’ve been coming back almost every weekend. Definitely a hidden gem in Richmond.

Service was so bad they messed up our order twice. They gave us plain water instead honey lemon. We even clarified twice that we wanted honey lemon not ice tea. They charged us more even though they got the order wrong. The portion was also very small. The waiter didn't even say sorry and started making an excuse

45 min wait times for food, bad service. Servers often forgot to bring us items such as boxes, forgot our complimentsry soups

Minimum charge applies to babies!!! Came with 4 adults and 2 babies (2 months old and 1 year old) and they told us we had minimum charge of $10 per person including the babies…. Absolutely ridiculous.
Edit: the owner must’ve mixed us up with someone else. We didn’t order French toast. Our order was $59 for 4 items and they came back saying we are below the minimum since there is 6 of us, and yes babies count.

7 of us dined at this place, the food was ok, the atmosphere good, but the service could be better especially both of our cars got parking tickets. After notifying the restaurant of parking issues, I received emails from the restaurant. It appears that the restaurant will sincerely provide parking notification to customers. It is real nice to see that a restaurant will take comments seriously and make efforts to help cutomers. I trust that Avery Cafe will go far.

Food comes out of a plastic bag and microwaved. Only reason this restaurant has the rating it has now is because they give you a free $3.00 French toast in exchange for a 5 star google rating.

Everyone should keep their expectations realistic; this is not a fine dining restaurant. It’s a traditional Cantonese style cha chaan teng, and part of the experience is enjoying the casual atmosphere, quick service, and comforting food. What I don’t understand is why some customers at a nearby table felt the need to speak to the staff so rudely and loudly. Their confrontational tone was completely unnecessary and disrupted the environment for everyone around them.
Honestly I don’t usually write reviews, but after seeing a complaint posted earlier, clearly from that same customer, I felt the need to show my support for the staff. From what I witnessed, the team handled the situation calmly and professionally despite being spoken to disrespectfully.
Let’s all respect the culture of this type of restaurant, the people who work hard to serve us, and the shared dining atmosphere. The food was enjoyable, and I appreciate the staff for maintaining their professionalism. Love the Christmasy decors so much!

I am writing this review just wanting to express my support for the workers here. They deal with a lot of stress every day, and today we witnessed some customers giving them a very hard time by arguing with the restaurant’s policy. The staff clearly explained that they must close at 3 pm, yet the customers challenged them, even asking what the workers would do if they refused to leave. No one should have to deal with that kind of disrespect while simply doing their job. Food is fairly good and we’d love to come back again.

Just wanted to mention and highlight that we really appreciate how calmly and professionally the staff handled everything. The resturant is sometimes super busy with limited staff available, but we’re so glad that the staff could handle things well and stayed patient and respectful the whole time. We’ll definitely keep coming back for great food and service

We loved the food and the service. This afternoon, we noticed some very rude customers arguing with the servers. The staff did their best to handle the situation, but those two customers were being confrontational and refused to leave even though the last-order time had already passed, despite the servers explaining it clearly. We felt bad for the staff, who had to deal with such difficult customers. Sending our support to them! We love this cafe❤️
