Yesterday we went to Anar Restaurant for the first time and I think it will probably be the last time. The waitress was nice, but the tables were not clean, the service that should be on the table was not there, we had to ask for salt and pepper, sumac and slice of lemon beside the kebab... The beer I ordered was very good, but the kebab (cubideh) was not at all what we expected, it did not taste good, it had too much spice and tasted like fat, plus the size of the kebabs was small and the rice was very tasteless and had no salt at all. In any case, the food portion was small and compared to some Iranian restaurants, it was of very low quality. I do not recommend it at all. It was not a good experience.

Today we tried this Persian restaurant and the food was amazing — it really tasted like homemade! I highly recommend trying the Zereshk Polo with Chicken and Ghormeh Sabzi — both were delicious.

I loved the cozy atmosphere, beautiful decoration, and the friendly ladies at Anar. The food was delicious and truly felt like a genuine Persian experience. My only suggestion would be to serve Persian kabab with Persian rice or even jasmine rice—Indian rice doesn’t quite match the flavors. Otherwise, everything was perfect. Highly recommend for anyone craving real Persian cuisine in Richmond!

Visited Anar back in June. This homey spot serves up Persian cuisine in Steveston.
For starters, we tried the Mirza Ghasemi ($15) - eggplant and Borani ($15) - spinach. Both dips are great with bread.
Ordered the Loughmeh Kebab ($23) which is made from minced beef and lamb. The kebabs were quite tender. The Chicken Curry ($24) is a rather large dish of rice with spicy chicken pieces mixed inside. It had a fairly spicy kick to it.
For drinks, we had the Ab Anar - pomegranate juice ($6) and Sharbat - Persian lemonade ($6) both were refreshing.

Third time eating at Anar, each time with groups sized 6-15+. The food is always excellent. I love the kebabs. Did you know everything but the bread is gluten free on the menu? Get the Sharbat (Persian lemonade) for a unique refresher made with preserved lemons.
