On the evening of March 28, the male staff was polite and professional. However, the female staff member had a terrible attitude. She did not proactively provide me with a stamp card, and when I requested one, she rudely dropped it on the table and walked away without a word. Very disappointing service—hope the management improves this.

The sticky rice dumplings were still cold inside. The Xiao Lung Bao was luke warm. The rice cakes were too salty. Not authentic Shanghai food.

One of the worst experiences ever. My better half is vegetarian. I repeated 3 times to the server to be mindful of the fact vegetarian means NO meat or fish of any kind.
I really wanted to make sure the server understood what I was requesting as English is not her mother tongue.
Amongst other food we ordered the Cauliflower Hot Pot (by the way it's in the vegetable section). We ate the dish but once the upper layers were consumed on the bottom of the pot my husband discovered 2 pieces of meat that I identified as pork!! It was shocking, disgusting and unacceptable. How can such an important request be ignored?? It's careless and dangerous too.
What if a person was allergic to peanuts or shellfish? People can die from a 'mistake' like this. Also religious concerns would be a terrible problem. The server apologized and removed the dish from the bill, but in my opinion that wasn't nearly enough to compensate this awful experience.
The rest of the food was OK, but kind of uninspired and the overall ambient was boring and the servers were not motivated at all. Was it because we are a mature Caucasian couple? Other customers that were Asian got a far quicker and attentive service.

Ordered off ubereats, first time I ordered the shanghai fried rice cake. Thought it was avg, and better elsewhere. Second time I ordered the thick shanghai noodles, and loved this. It will be my goto dish here. The chew texture has a nice mouth feel when eating this. The flavours are good, not overly salty, and very flavourful.

The waitress miss my order and we have been sitting there for 40 mins and none of the waitress notice they miss our order.
I have to ask the waitress to order again and seems she don't know what's going on.
Very disappointed services.

Very very bad Chinese food don't try. The wontons are apparently cooked from premade frozen. Chinese people don't lie to Chinese people. Every dish is outrageous. The wontons can be tasted as soon as they are frozen, and they are not quick-frozen. ! ! Is this tomato beef brisket added with a ton of starch? It's like beef fished out of a sauce swamp. The beef inside still tastes like braised beef. What a strange combination... other dishes are too sweet.
Absolute insight into Shanghainese cuisine

Baiyulan Shanghai Cuisine in Richmond is a gem! The **Dang Dang noodles** and **Szechuan beef noodles** are absolute must-tries, packed with authentic flavors and perfectly cooked. Their **signature soup dumplings** are delicate, juicy, and bursting with rich broth. The **Nanjing Salted Duck** is tender and flavorful, a true delight. What I love most is the flexibility—many dishes can be made **vegan**, making it an excellent spot for diverse dietary preferences. The staff are friendly, attentive, and always make you feel welcome. Baiyulan offers a true taste of Shanghai, with a variety of delicious options and exceptional service. Highly recommended!

Ordered takeout late one night and presumably the owner of the restaurant, he kindly offered us some free takeout drinks on the house. The drink was so tasty and I believe it was the Osmanthus Oolong Tea - will definitely be purchasing this drink in the future.
My go to item here is the Shanghai Style Deep Fried Chicken in Vinegar Sauce - portion sizes are generous for the price. Tried the satay beef fried noodles yesterday and was very tasty.
Hours of operation are open till late night, the food we've ordered has all been great, generally not too busy the times I've dined in, and servers / owner is friendly. There was only one server working late last night and she was very kind. We initially wanted to order two chicken dishes but she suggested we try another meat dish because the two chicken dishes were very similar.
Will be coming back here a lot more often, this place is a gem.
