Banbuxian Restaurant Richmond

I went back to Vancouver this year to visit this restaurant specifically due to the amazing taste of couple of their dishes I had experienced last year, but sadly what I experience was not good at all, the crab is dead, meat were all loose. Chicken lack flavor, I am not sure so much has changed, only dish good was the Mao xue wang, I won't be visiting again.

Fair warning, practically everything on the menu has some level of spice. Besides that, Banbuxian is a very spacious and tasty restaurant. Solid amount of options and very efficient staff and service. Definitely a good choice for a night out.

Horrible experience here. We called for reservations but found out they didn’t accept reservations for smaller table size like our party of 5 so we came in and lined up. It was busy when we lined up but they quickly got sat down so we were first in line, the issue came after when many other parties came in and got sat before us while we waited for 1hr (we would have left but when asking them how long it would take for us to be sat because there were open tables they would always say soon they just have to set the table up.) When we were finally sat and ordered we waited for another 40min for any of the food to come when there wasn’t many people in the restaurant anymore. The food here is great but their attitude and wait time was horrendous I don’t know if it’s worth it honestly so beware.

Expensive place! The food is good but expensive for what it is. The portion is decent but not enough to garner the exorbitant price. The fried rice is quite a bit for two people but it was plain and simply not worth $17. I’d rather they make a smaller portion of the fried rice that tastes better.
The music is kinda loud and they try to play the traditional sounding ones which makes it quite distracting.

This dish was completely unacceptable. Most of the fish pieces were just heads and tails, and almost every bite was full of fish scales. The tail portions were terrifyingly full of tiny bones. When paying, I asked what kind of fish it was, and they told me it was crucian carp. But I am convinced the dish was made from different types of fish, because some pieces had very small scales while others had very large ones.

The dining environment itself was okay. We waited 30 minutes for a table, and then another 30 minutes for the food after ordering. Eating this dish took me 40 minutes because I constantly had to spit out scales and bones.

The service was fine at first, but the manager came over and explained that the reason there were so many fish heads was because the head had been cut into many pieces. Honestly, that explanation was ridiculous—every piece came with eyes and brain attached.

In a corner of a plaza in Richmount. Very authentic Sichuan cuisine! The staff are excellent—neatly dressed and very friendly. Dining here is a pleasant experience both for the taste buds and the eyes. Highly recommended!

This place is legit. Its current score as of this writing says 3.6 and it motivated me to add a review because this is authentic Sichuan/Chonqing cooking in family style. Look no further. If you don’t like it, you are the problem. If you want 10,000 waiters running around to cater to your every need, go to dim sum in Kerrisdale or something, because you’ve misunderstood the assignment of what this place does really well and you won’t find it anywhere else.

The service experience was extremely poor. The three of us were only given seats at two tables. There were actually larger tables available, but because the waiters were too lazy to clean up, they forced us to sit together. After a few dishes were served, we realized there wasn't enough space and reported the problem to the waiters. The waiters said they would solve it later. But even after all the dishes were served, no one came to solve the problem. Even when the last dish was served, the waiters chose to take away the tissues, leaving us with nowhere to put our bowls and not offering us a change of table. After other guests finished and left, the waiters arranged for two people to sit at a table for four, but still didn't solve our problem. It wasn't until we got angry that they changed to a larger table, and the waiters' attitude made us feel that we were being unreasonable. When we checked out, they charged us for two extra bowls of rice, and if it weren't for me looking at the bill, we would have been overcharged. In short, the food was okay in taste, but the waiters' seating arrangement was completely lacking in thought. Because of their laziness, it made the guests very uncomfortable. Please hire some more diligent waiters. You are the ones providing service, not doing nothing and expecting guests to tip.

Cool place with good food, especially lunch special. Excellent service, would be nice to have the same lunch special at night as well. Food came super fast.
