I will not come again after trying it. The service and dishes are average, the portions are small and the price is high ($100 per person). There is a private room for 10 people, but the drunken chicken, camphor tea duck, and Wagyu slices are for 4 people..... In the end, one piece per person is only a disc. For a better and more authentic selection of Shanghainese and Cantonese cuisine, don’t choose this place.

Despite having made an appointment, we were left waiting in the rain for five minutes due to staff mishaps. Upon finally being seated, our table was still unprepared, adding to the frustration. The dining area is a reminiscent of a bustling market with constant foot traffic passing by.While the food was decent, it was far from remarkable, failing to compensate for the lackluster service and ambiance. Overall, our experience was marred by poor organization and discomfort, making it difficult to enjoy our meal fully. We hope the management addresses these issues to provide a more pleasant dining experience for future patrons.

We went to the restaurant according to our reservation, but the boss told us that he had forgotten our reservation, and the king crab we were supposed to order was completely missing. A table was temporarily opened for us. They try to serve well but the waiters are completely untrained and every word is just right to make people angry, especially the boss. The boss came up and said directly, "We haven't ordered king crab. If you want to eat it, you can eat it. If you don't want to eat it, you can leave." Please, you're in a remote place, where can we eat at seven o'clock in the evening? absurd. Eating at a table in the lobby feels like being visited in a corridor with people coming and going, which is a very poor experience. Because of the reservation, the boss initially said he would give us a free bill, but in the end he didn't even get a discount and paid the original price. When the boss paid the bill, he disappeared. The food is passable and authentic, but not amazing.

First visit to private kitchen in RichmondThere’s no menu and each dish come by surpriseWe ordered based on 17 people each at @$75 per person and all the dishes to be decided by the chefThey served us about 20 different dishes and most of them are quite saltyThe most disappointing part is the portion is so small some of the dishes we don’t have enough for everyoneWe have 17 people and they give us 16 dumplings , 13 pieces of angus beef ….For the rest most of them is only 1 piece per personIt’s not filling at allQuality of dumpling and XLB honestly is much worse than what we can get at local food courtThe steam egg is silk smooth but too saltyFish and pork knuckle are very really tastyThey have big round table for 17 people and karaoke and mahjong table which is good for party gatheringServer is super attentive and professionalPlenty of parking outside the building

Bit of of the range by the water, but customized menu tailored for private events. Food tend to be on the shanghai flavoured side.2 Private rooms are available with KTV for your private party. An good option of those busy days when you can’t find bookings for large party with the local generic Chinese seafood restaurants. Would recommend and go again on special days.

If there was a zero star rating, I would give that rating. It is so funny to see all these google review comments speaking so highly of this Cook Yang (not a chef, a cook only), but it is because the public doesn't know the actual person that wears this cook hat. He is no celebrity chef no matter what people have said or what he has told people. According to people that know him which I know those people as well, they claim he is a fake, but this is up to the public to decide. The people I know will never go eat at his restaurant. He started in Vancouver as a baker in Pine House Bakery and then worked at various Shanghai restaurants after that. The last place he worked at before this was Shanghai Elan at Crystal Mall but that has since closed. So I do not know why he could claim he is a celebrity chef, but i guess people will believe anything, even fake news. His tactic is to find a wealthy idiot chinese investor to convince them to buy and set up a restaurant and he will be the cook for the restaurant (he would tell the investor that he is a well known chef, but probably all lies). Mr. Yang does not front any of his own money into these restaurant businesses as he tells the investor that he is the "chef" and will make sure it is profitable. All Shanghai restaurants he has entered into a business venture with a chinese investor have all failed and went bankrupt in the past. Not one has been successful. Each time a restaurant closes shop, he just leaves and leaves the investor to handle the mess since he has no financial stake in the restaurant since he did not put any money into it. The restaurants only last typically for a year to 1.5 years before it shuts down due to lack of profitability. I heard thru the grapevine that a previous investor was trying to sue him as well due to a bad business investment decision, but it is up to the investor to do all the research first before setting up any restaurant and find out who you are getting into bed with. If I were to take a guess, this restaurant won't last either, but only time will tell. For those of you that do not want to believe this, that is up to you. I just do not like frauds to claim they are someone when they are not. Have fun eating at Cook Yang House if you go. If the restaurant closes, I am sure you will find him pop up somewhere else in a restaurant near you ?.

Spot on authentic Shanghainese food. Great services and atmosphere, definitely worth the price.Had a set chef's selection menu of the day, every single dish was either met or above expectation based on the quality and quantity.Highly recommended for Shanghainese food lovers or Chinese food in general.
