Came here with my kids for brunch and loved it! The food was delicious and fresh, and the server was friendly and patient with us. Such a great experience and we will definitely be back

A couple of weeks ago, a friend and I met up in Steveston for brunch at Chef’s Playground. The restaurant itself is clean, welcoming, and the staff were very friendly and attentive throughout our visit.
I ordered the Chicken Waffle Benny, and unfortunately, I was a bit underwhelmed. I had expected the dish to be built with the chicken and egg stacked directly on the waffle, but the chicken was served separately. The waffle came topped with a poached egg and a light drizzle of hollandaise, which was quite minimal. The waffle itself leaned dry and had a very sugary heavy bottom, which didn’t quite pair well with the rest of the dish for my taste.
My friend ordered the big breakfast and substituted the sausage for extra bacon. The bacon was cooked so thoroughly that when she picked it up, it shattered. Although she enjoys crispy bacon, this was a bit beyond that point, and she ended up leaving most of it on the plate.
That said, the service was excellent, and the restaurant was busy, which suggests many people were enjoying their meals. Perhaps we caught them on an off day. While this experience likely wouldn’t bring me back, I can appreciate the atmosphere and friendliness we encountered.

Been looking forward to try out this 4.5⭐ restaurant. Went there yesterday around 4pm but left with disappointment. Very restrictive about seating, poor ventilation and BAD customer service.
Although there are four 2 seater tables, we were seated at the table that is next to the kitchen where the cooking fumes is the strongest among the other tables. After requesting twice, we were allowed to switch to another table which is by the entrance although there are 2 others by the window. That is fine until the waitress came up and said that normally change of table is not allowed in their restaurant. Customers supposed to follow their system. Alright, all the best!

Went for happy hour with my family, all the food was really good, well cooked and seasoned, some of the fries could have done with a dip though. The beef skewers were really delicious! The oysters were nice as well. The drink choices were also very cool with the infusion of different type of drinks mixes. Would come here again!

Absolutely love this place! Came here with my family of 5 for happy hour and I was beyond satisfied. We had a doz oysters for $1.50 each!! Such a steal for how fresh they were! Definitely my new go to spot.

We also ordered the holiday set menu and boy was that also delicious! My family enjoyed every bite and were so full! The service there was excellent and super kind too

I will definitely be coming back for more :)

First time here and the food was good. However, we ordered beef skewers twice, and the second time they gave us lower quality meat. Our friend, who was with us, told us it happened to them the first time they tried it too. They just assumed it was a mistake, but I guess they do it to everyone. That was disappointing.

Oysters were fresh, chicken wings were average. The soup was good. We made a reservation but there was only one other table eating on a Friday night.

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat dinner here again, but it seems like people like brunch/lunch better so I would try that instead.

The ventilation system is poor, and not expected any service at all with just one chef and one waitress from 4pm til close. The food is ok; a $45 holiday dinner includes soup, steak & lobster, plus cheesecake. What do you expect? I do love the happy hour oyster $1.50 tho. I don’t have I’ll go back coz my whole body stinks after dine in. 😅

My 16yo very particular eater and I stumbled into Chef's Playground Eatery in Stevenson tonight and WOW. Excellent in every way imaginable.

My daughter got the wings (wing Wednesday = 80c wings), I got clams and focaccia, and we shared a Mac & Cheese + truffle fries.

My daughter says these are the best wings she has ever had - perfectly crisp on the outside, perfectly moist and meaty in. The Mac & Cheese was DELIGHTFUL, the fries were served with a house made ketchup and were phenomenal, and the clams were absolutely perfect.

Beyond that, the service was top notch - our waitress went over everything and checked on us the perfect amount. We were seated immediately and just felt so taken care of. The food came very quickly too and seemed super fresh and thoughtfully curated.

They were sold out of a few dishes - we are excited to try the calamari next time - but had many very thoughtful substitutions on the menu. They also do a happy hour and a special of the day.

I don’t know how much more praise I can shower on this place, but it’s lovely and absolutely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Beloved! A wonderful, local spot with a fulsome menu. We love our go-tos but also enjoy the seasonal menus. Brunch portions are generous and we always leave happy!

First time here. It was a really cute place nicely decorated. Wonderful service. I heard they had good burgers so I wanted to try one. The burger was ok, seemed that it was unseasoned and tasted as if it was steamed. The fries were really good though. Ordered a few other items and everything was ok, didn’t taste bad but not good either. They have a lot of made in house items like their ketchup and drinks but don’t have an alternative in case you’re not a fan.

Was walking by and decided to stop in for a Friday evening dinner. I had the $22 flatiron steak and fries special and my partner had the fish and chips. Steak was delicious and cooked well but needed a touch more salt. The truffle fries were excellent and crispy. The best part of the dish was the peppercorn steak sauce. I need a vat of that. Fish and chips were good but the fish was a bit crushed up on the inside. Wish that they had pop options to drink and i agree with the other reviewers who say they need better ventilation. My hair and jacket reeked of stale oil after we left. Overall excellent food and will return.

From Prince George. Googled restaurants with soup nearby. Chef’s Playground came up. BEST mushroom soup EVER. Also had smoked salmon Benny. FANTASTIC! House made ketchup with crispy potatoes and sweet salad! All was AMAZING! Will absolutely be back!

I’ve ate here many times but today for breakfast it was mediocre. Food served on the cold side, hash browns overcooked and not fresh. Eggs cold. Bacon and sausage were served nicely. Not sure I will give them another opportunity??
