Was walking by and decided to stop in for a Friday evening dinner. I had the $22 flatiron steak and fries special and my partner had the fish and chips. Steak was delicious and cooked well but needed a touch more salt. The truffle fries were excellent and crispy. The best part of the dish was the peppercorn steak sauce. I need a vat of that. Fish and chips were good but the fish was a bit crushed up on the inside. Wish that they had pop options to drink and i agree with the other reviewers who say they need better ventilation. My hair and jacket reeked of stale oil after we left. Overall excellent food and will return.

From Prince George. Googled restaurants with soup nearby. Chef’s Playground came up. BEST mushroom soup EVER. Also had smoked salmon Benny. FANTASTIC! House made ketchup with crispy potatoes and sweet salad! All was AMAZING! Will absolutely be back!

I’ve ate here many times but today for breakfast it was mediocre. Food served on the cold side, hash browns overcooked and not fresh. Eggs cold. Bacon and sausage were served nicely. Not sure I will give them another opportunity??

Went for HH. Oysters were excellent. Skewers were amazing especially pork belly. Salmon tataki was fantastic. Every bite there was a joy. I’d highly recommend.

Love the truffle briskets benny. The steak and eggs definitely very good value item on their menu. They even made the ketchup in house. Will come back to try their happy hour and their new Sunday funday menu. 😋

Had brunch here, it’s the best brunch in Steveston area, really enjoy their homemade ketchup and jam. Only downside is the air quality isn’t great, jacket come out like i have been in a kitchen.

Chef’s Playground is an accurate name — a commis is playing chef in there. First time I’ve seen someone sous-vide a steak and still miss medium

Went for brunch with my family on a Saturday and the whole dining experience was just disappointing. Once we sat down we were told they were out of avocados and tomatoes. Then after a while they said they don’t have mushrooms, fish and chips and truffles fries. The kitchen just not prepared for service. We ended up with very limited choices which was still fine. The dishes came out at a reasonable time except for the Mac and cheese that my niece ordered. We waited for 30+ mins and were told it would be a few more minutes. After 10 minutes we asked again and the chef said he hasn’t even start making it. Apparently he would rather prepare all the dishes for all the other tables that came after us than start making the Mac and cheese. I thought it was just crazy and unacceptable. We ended up watching my niece eating her not so great Mac and cheese since we all finished our plates.
The food was subpar and bland. The
Oyster Chowder was watery and flavorless. The menu said it comes with garlic bread but we got tasteless focaccia bread instead. I guess they were out of garlic bread as well. Sorry, with other brunch restaurants in the area, I don’t think I would ever want to go back to this place.
We still paid 15% tips because the front of house staff were actually friendly and attentive.

I come here now and then since I live relatively close by, sorta. But the every now and then seems just right for coming here. Eqch time we dine here it's always something different. There is a familiarity to chefs dishes and then again some of my older favourites are not there. But thats ok. Always have to try to change things up. And since I've been here off and on since they first opened. I'm always pleasantly surprised. This morning I have breakfast and really liked my Eggs Bennie. The server was cute and polite and helpful. The food came out fast and the coffee was spot on. I came back with some relatives for lunch. Same day! We all had steak. For the price I knew to not expect dry aged ribeye and so I wasn't let down. However for the cut I should have ordered it more in the cooked side. Fries were ok. The downside was that we all noticed the steaks were not that hot. The good side is that the ketchup I think is house made as well as the fresh bread and the jams etc. in the current format I think Chefs Playground has evolved into a slightly HK style format with better quality and attention to detail. Prices are good and service is good. For me, it's my casual diner to revisit every now and then. That's a good thing especially since I fine out way less these days. So I pick my spots more carefully. I hope you like this place. We do.

Was here on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. Came here to try the chicken waffles and Benedict. The waffles was a bit sweet but had good texture. The chicken and hash was on the smaller size compared to the other photos I've seen on this page. Overall, I thought it was okay. I didn't think this particular dish stood out or anything.

We went here for happy hour on a Friday night. It wasn't nearly as busy as it should have been considering how amazing the food was. We had lamb and steak skewers, clams, oysters, calamari, garlic fries, grass fed rib eye, and chicken wings with drinks. The service staff was great, pleasant, and very helpful. The skewers had amazing flavor, the calamari was perfectly done, tender, crisp coating, didn't even need a dip. Clams and oysters were good and the salt and pepper wings were also extremely flavorful. Rib eye perfectly cooked rare, and the fries were crisp, tender inside and never went soggy. I told the chef my trip to Vancouver was made complete just by eating there, and I wasn't kidding.

Teriyaki chicken burger 9/10 - this is a fried chicken burger with pineapple and it’s hard to eat because of how tall is it. fried chicken is cooked perfectly and the only thing i wish was it had more teriyaki sauce. the fries are cooked perfectly and the ketchup is homemade too!
Samurai Teriyaki Burger 10/10
burger is delicious super nice and crispy and pairs well with the pineapple
i found their homemade ketchup a bit watery but it was still tasty
the only con is the ventilation is not the greatest so you’ll walk out with your clothes smelling a bit greasy
