I ordered a special cake for my son graduation from UBC and running late because of the traffics, they called and offered me if the shop closed when I get there, they will be in the back and just knock at the door, amazing experience just for that alone, the cake is beyond my expectations, the look, the taste and they even decorated the cake with the grad hat on it, thank you so much and my family loved the cake , especially my son. Thank you for a great job!

I was reading reviews of this place because I'm trying to find if anyone has ordered the carrot cake before and how they find it, I'm ordering one today for the first time. But I frequently get other cakes and cake donuts from diplomat because of the great variety and quality for a reasonable price. There aren't many places where you can walk in and buy a cake and have them personalize it right then and there without a pre-order, it's a wonderful service. The other reason I'm writing this is put my strong opinion in that the red velvet cake donuts are absolutely the best thing ever! Another reviewer wrote they didn't like them that it should be more of a donut, but it literally says cake donut, it's a cake in the shape of a donut and the cream cheese frosting is out of this world. My whole family loves them and I get them as a very special treat.
Cakes are a little expensive but the quality is excellent! I got the hazelnut cake and it was delicious! I will definitely order more cakes in the future.

Tried a few cakes. Paying $6.50 for such a tiny narrow slice I expected something higher than average taste, but they appeared just ok. Besides, some cakes differ by name and exterior, but made of very similar layers of just different colours and slightly different flavours. And what they call 'cheesecake' is not a conventional cheesecake. It's just a cake.
We found the cake fo be flavorless and very processed tasting.

This bakery has been running for many years in Richmond and has a great reputation. Iāve supported them a lot over the last 2 decades, at the old location and now their newer one in Steveston. The cakes always look beautiful. Today I went in and tried their ādonutsā and was so extremely disappointed. They are $5.99 each and I bought two. Theyāre not donuts at all.. theyāre donut-shaped cakes with a gross cream on topā¦ I guess itās buttercream? But it doesnāt taste right at all. Iām so irritated that I wasted so much money. Had two bites of the red velvet before tossing it and only half a bite of the salted caramel. It was absolutely not worth the calories or the $12. The sign does say ācake donutsā, so I did prepare myself for them being more like cake than a donut, but the taste of everything was still so disappointing. I would caution against trying them, as cute as they look. Iāve never really had a cake or donut (or really, any baked good) I didnāt like.. so that says a lot.

We visited this place on Monday Sept 30, 2024 and order the expensive Samosas ever $6 each, muffin and 2 drinks. The food was okay but we were served food in the paper bag and drink in to go cup. We ended up eating the food with our hands seating g outside. While other people were served in plates. How does this make sense? Very unprofessional service.

I canāt say enough about the Diplomat Bakery. I first learnt about it more than 12 years ago when a friend had a cake that was shaped into a book at a party. The book was made of a triple chocolate mousse cake. Ever since then I have been returning to the Diplomat Bakery every time I need a cake. Their prices are very reasonable and the quality of their cakes is excellent. The triple chocolate mousse cake is my absolute favourite and every time I serve it, people are always raving about it. I donāt live in Richmond, but I will travel the 40 minutes to get there just for this cake. The staff is always friendly and thereās always people getting coffee and mingling around the bakery. Itās located in a nice little tucked away spot in Steveston. The parking is easy as there is paid street parking but also thereās free underground parking behind the building. Thatās where I usually go. Not really sure if I should be parking there but I do! Staff is always friendly. The place is very clean and organized. Itās a great place to go for cakes for special occasions as well as just having coffee and a treat with friends, to take a break or just because itās so good! I think the Diplomat Bakery should give me a free treat for this reviewš But honestly, I highly recommend it.
Parking: Underground parking behind store only a few steps to Diplomatās door. Paid street parking is full but thereās usually 1-2 spots open when I go.
Kid-friendliness: Itās got treats for kids if any age and seating inside and out. Outside seats kids can be louder if necessary.
