Best Izakaya type restaurant hands down in Richmond.Must visit when in Richmond!Parking and LocationVery easy to find on No.3 Road. The parking is plentiful with the parking lot directly in front and back of the mall.AtmosphereExtremely great decor that is of a typical Izakaya eatery in Japan. Reminds me of Tokyo and some other in Japan. There is also a big screen TV for those who wants to watch sports. There are a few rooms for more private spaces but floor space is plenty.FoodThe food is excellent! From the uni sushi to sashimi, to the robata of beef tongue and chicken knee, everything taste excellent. There is a wide variety of choice in sake, both hot and cold. The beer is great, especially the Okinawan draft beer, which has a clean taste and goes down quite easy.ServiceThe best if all is the service. The owners, Glenda and Spencer, may also join you for a quick drink! Their hospitality is the best of the overall experience. It reminds I me of Izakaya places in Japan where the owner joins you in chatter and drink. Definitely a great experience overall.Geanbei Izakaya is highly recommended for both a place for excellent food as well as a place for a gathering. Will definitely visit again whenever I'm in town. I would say this is my local hangout whenever I'm in Richmond to see family and friends.

Excellent sashimi and a skewers special. Spencer, our server was knowledgeable and helpful. His sake suggestion was spot on. I would definitely repeat the experience. I didn't love the tv screen with TSN sports, but that's my only complaint.

What a great experience and the food was really good! The service was great. It's been a long time since I have seen this level of attention. Beers were refilled before they were emptied, served was always there when we wanted to order more food, allergy was accommodated. We willHe back!

Came here and had their special holiday multi course menu that serves 4-6. We had a party of 4 adults plus two small children and it was enough. The highlights were the Hamachi carpaccio and the lobster sashimi. They take the lobster and make an udon soup with it after. The lobster is super fresh, as in still moving, when they bring the sashimi out.We also had a bottle of sake, the house one. It was quite smooth and certain staff are more knowledgeable about the sake menu than others so they can make recommendations. The highlight is that they offer you your choice of sake cups from a box to use and they also bring a warmer to the table. Presentation is outstanding.I would say the service here is what really makes this place stand out from the other Japanese restaurants. Everyone was super nice and let us know what was going on. They were on top of clearing dishes, refilling water or tea, and the sake. The restaurant is small and a bit confusing for parking. The interior is cozy with a few of the more traditional style tables with cushions and a grafittis style mural on one wall.
Came here because I saw reviews/posts about them online and I'm glad I came to try for myself. The lobster sashimi was super fresh and the beef tataki was probably the best I've had in

Food was very delicious! I agree with other reviewers that you might not feel as full after only a couple of dishes but the flavor makes up for it. Not to mention, the service was great and the staff was very helpful!

This place was not tasty, took over 30 minutes to make a nigiri set when the restaurant only had one other table. The seafood does not taste fresh. Overpriced for what it truly is. Better off going to Kizami for better sushi at same price
