Came in with another couple a few weeks ago. The current tasting menu in my personal opinion is pretty superb. We all agreed the duck plate was a bright highlight of our visit. If we had the choice, I think we would have ordered another serving. We upgraded 2 of the 4 main courses to the Wellington, it was perfectly and expertly done. Hope we can pay another visit before the current menu changes.

Amazing food. Amazing service.

Words can’t fully describe the experience—you really have to try it yourself. I had the Fall 2024 menu, and I loved how the chef and staff took the time to explain the inspiration behind each dish.

The way the chef fused Asian flavors with French techniques was truly impressive and made every bite unforgettable.

I can’t wait to see what the chef creates next!

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Missing Chopsticks in Richmond, where we experienced their exquisite 5-course set menu, priced at $118 per person. If you’re planning to order the Beef Wellington, do note that it requires at least 2 days’ advance notice. Otherwise, your main course option will be the Sablefish, which is what we opted for.

The evening began with the Lobster Tart, accompanied by truffle foie gras mousse. The combination of rich foie gras and delicate lobster set the tone for the gourmet journey ahead. Foie gras here was something we enjoyed a lot and my friend who doesn’t like them didn’t even notice that it was part of the dish. Next, we enjoyed the Hiramasa with tomato ohitashi and gazpacho, a refreshingly light and vibrant dish that allowed the natural flavor of the fish to shine. My wife, who doesn’t eat raw fish, mentioned what her review would be on the Hiramasa. She suggested it would be nice if there were two options for this dish—perhaps a cooked version as well—to cater to different preferences.

The Duck Confit, paired with duck-filled tortellini and a Cantonese curry velouté, showcased a masterful blend of French techniques with Asian flavors. The tender duck and the bold, creamy curry were an unexpected yet harmonious pairing. By unanimous, this was our favourite dish.

As for the Sablefish, while the fish was wonderfully cooked with deep, savory flavors and a perfectly crisped skin, we did notice some inconsistency in portion sizes within our group. While my portion was generous, a few of my friends received smaller servings—likely as it tapered towards the tail, the meat gets leaner and I got the more center portion. I suggest weighing each serving specially for the main dish? This was a minor hiccup in an otherwise outstanding dish.

We were fortunate to have Chef Toby personally accommodate our late dinner request. He went the extra mile to explain how each dish was crafted and even engaged in a conversation with us about the differences between Chinese roasted duck and the French-style duck confit we had enjoyed earlier.

For dessert, the Chocolate Mousse with dried mandarin and sesame crisp was a delightful finish, offering a beautiful balance of bitterness and sweetness with a touch of citrus.

Overall, Missing Chopsticks delivers a memorable and refined dining experience in Richmond. The thoughtfully curated menu, coupled with Chef Toby’s warm hospitality, makes it a spot well worth visiting. Despite the small portion variations, the dishes were exceptional, and we’ won’t hesitate to dine with Missing Chopsticks again! I heard they change their menu once every quarter.

I went to Missing Chopsticks to celebrate my friend's birthday. The tasting menu included 5 courses (and we ordered white wine). My favourite dishes were the first (lobster tart with truffle foie gras mousse gougere)and second dish (hiramasa with tomato ohitashi and gazpacho), while I find the third dish (duck confit with duck-filled tortellini with Cantonese Curry Veloute) being the most creative. As a French/Asian fusion restaurant, I think they are quite innovative with how they use ingredients and pair them together. Everything tasted amazing and quoting from my friend: the quality of the food was worth the price.

They also have great service, describing every dish in detail, checking in on us after serving each dish, refilling our water before our glasses were empty, etc. The owner is friendly and passionate about what he does. He told us that their menu changes every 6-8 weeks, which requires a lot of effort and creativity, something I really appreciate.

Thank you for the hospitality, looking forward to the next tasting menu!
