Pound steak is a very delicious restaurant in Richmond. The flat iron was very tender, curry and miso soup were amazing. Demi glace need a bit of work but overall, I recommend the restaurant. 👍

Disappointing for anyone expecting semi-authentic Japanese cuisine.
This spot feels more like a Japanese-style café rather than an actual restaurant. One major issue: what’s labeled as Unagi on the menu is actually Anago (saltwater eel). That’s an important distinction — the flavor, texture, and richness are completely different. When I asked where the eel came from, it took four different staff members before someone could give me an answer. While the servers were friendly, they seemed unfamiliar with their own menu. Not to mention the incorrect information on their menu.
The food itself is overpriced for the quality. The steak was the only dish that stood out, and even then, they were out of the strip steak I’d originally wanted. Service was slow, and the dishes came out one by one rather than together.
I ended up ordering the chicken katsu curry, which was extremely disappointing. The rice was bland, the curry sauce was overly sweet, and much of the chicken was gristle and sinew. I also ordered the Takoyaki, which was drowned in sauce and no crunchiness of texture on the outside.
If you’re looking for authentic Japanese flavors, this is not the place. It feels like a poor imitation of Japanese comfort food at fine-dining prices. A major disappointment overall.

Pond Steak Restaurant truly exceeded my expectations. The steak was incredibly tender and juicy — cooked perfectly with great flavor in every bite. I also loved the all-you-can-drink miso soup, a nice touch that you don’t often see elsewhere.
The servers were friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience smooth and enjoyable. The restaurant’s Japanese anime-themed decor adds such a fun and unique atmosphere — it really makes the place stand out.
For the quality of food and service you get, the pricing is very reasonable. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to again!
