Online menu is cutoff. Please fix.
Update: it's only cutoff on mobile.
Food was good! Well worth the price, because of the quality of the meat. We were worried about portion wise, but it was good enough. Unlimited refills of self-serve soups: miso and a specialty soup, and there's option for toppings to add to the soup. Note the soup is very hot! Parking is ok.

Combo deal (for 2) feeds three - we got the ebi katsu & takoyaki (appies), rib eye & udon carbonara (mains), the sunset soda & milk tea, and black sesame tiramisu & panna cotta. All were solid. Unlimited miso soup and salad.
Good spot!

My wife and I were looking for authentic japanese style steak house, and found this place. The place is decorated with manga goods, giving me family restaurant vibe.
We had 2 people course meal.
Appies were okay. The Hamachi crudo was fresh and tasty. The ebi tempura was little salty.
The steak and sauce came with it was amazing. Hamberg w/ cheese was okay to me but my wife loved it over the steak.
Also the deserts were great as well. Too bad we couldn't try the Matcha Tiramisu as I heard it is their signature menu. But the lemon cake and creme brulee was amazing.
Lastly their self serve curry and miso soup bar was something I loved as well.
Definitely willing to visit more often when we go Richmond

Our enthusiast wishes for Japanese Hamburg Steak (and other food) eroded step by step into complete disillusionment.
They have a fun feeling interior. Staff was friendly, attentive, and responsive. Food came out of the kitchen surprisingly fast. Self service rice and miso bar as well as the (limited) kids menu were nice. The DIY chu-hi was entertaining. Beer was cold with smaller portions available.
It looked like an exciting fusiony Japanese restaurant, but things went down hill once the food started coming out.
Let's start with the basics. I don't know how you run a restaurant and get rice wrong, it was dry... and clumpy. The kids dishes were simple and bland, I guess that's good for many kids. It was less than okay for ours. She described it as a mild salted water broth. The narutamaki was a bit off. The portion was large, so much went uneaten.
For the hamburg steak, the side vegetables tasted like they were frozen, then microwaved outside of the leave in the bag of frozen peas and carrots; then left on the plate under a hot light until the main was added. Two small potato pieces were as fresh as the grocery store deli at closing time. The Hamburg Steak center was served tartar-ricfic on a cast iron hot plate, it kept cooking to a food safe temperature eventually (maybe that's the intended experience?). The texture was definitely on the fattey side (cheaper meat). Sauces were basic and bland.
The crescendo of yuck 🤢 was the lobster. They warned us it wasn't the cut in the picture. What they didn't say is it'd be 1/3 tomalley. If you're into tomalley, you're in luck! It was bold and pungent. We're not thaaat adventurous so they were understanding and replaced the dish with the seafood carbonara. We were thankful for that. Turns out though, all of the seafood is extremely low quality. Like back alley China Town out of the trunk of a Buick quality.
For some reason I kept getting wafts of mothballs. Not sure where it came from but it didn't add to the experience.
TL;DR: if you go to a Japanese restaurant among many Chinese establishment the results may surprise you.

I ordered a Ribeye Steak (1 lb) as listed on the menu and charged on the receipt. However, the steak served was not a ribeye. It had a clearly defined, continuous fat cap along one edge and lacked the multi-muscle structure typical of a ribeye. The cut served was consistent with a striploin/sirloin, which is a different and lower-value cut.
I raised this issue with the restaurant and explained the structural difference between ribeye and striploin. The restaurant refused to acknowledge the discrepancy and insisted that the steak served was ribeye, without providing any explanation or evidence.
This is not a matter of personal taste, but of menu misrepresentation. Charging for a ribeye while serving a different cut is misleading. Customers who care about steak cuts should be aware of this practice.
