My second time here and now my new Fish & Chips place to go in Steveston. I had the one piece halibut meal..... definitely enough for this senior..... fish was nicely done with not too much batter and the home-style fries were excellent. Tartar sauce was also very good. If I were to suggest anything--- I could have used a bit more coleslaw.

2025.08.30 Shady Island Seafood Bar & Grill food quality is below par, while the service and atmosphere were better. Pork Belly appetizer was fair, the dipping sauce added a bit more flavor; large cod & chips was too thickly coated and too greasy, the fries were standard, coleslaw was good; the drunken noodles with chicken pad kee mao, noodles were chewier than I care for, the chicken was overcooked, dry, unpleasant, disappointing.

Outside tables with a view over the water. Live entertainment on Thursdays thru Saturdays 1800-2100. Free Wi-Fi, main washrooms on the second floor, handicapped washroom main floor, credit cards accepted, need to pay if parking on their lot, reachable by public transit.

Would recommend to come for a drink, their food misses the mark.

Loved it. The service, the view, and the food/drinks.
I had the seafood linguini. I found It was a light meal. (No heavy feeling on the stomach from pasta).
I enjoyed the view on the patio. Lucked out with a beautiful sunset.

Took my adventurous 10-year-old son here for his first proper seafood experience, and it did not disappoint. The Calamari, Salmon Fish & Chips, and Fisherman’s Pot were all superb—flavourful, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The service was equally impressive. The staff were warm, attentive, and full of positive energy. A special touch: after joining in a birthday song for another table, they surprised my son with a complimentary slice of cake. A thoughtful gesture that capped off an already excellent visit. Highly recommended.

I used to love Shady Island — the food, the family-friendly atmosphere, and especially the service. It was one of our go-to spots because the staff was always kind and welcoming, especially with our kids.

But today’s experience left me really disappointed.

We were seated and waited for over 10 minutes, and no one came to take our order. I politely asked a staff member twice if someone could come over, but no one followed up. Meanwhile, I had two young kids who were getting increasingly hungry and frustrated.

We eventually had to leave without ordering.

It’s such a letdown to see the service decline like this. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, because this used to be a gem of a place.

For me and my wife, there is a 90 km drive to here. This is a great place to eat fresh seafood. Service is very fast, and workers are very friendly. I would recommend stopping by

Everything tasted like Farm Raised and heavily frozen. The Halibut was oily and tasted like it was pre cooked and was heated for serving. Sad experience.

Yeah, nothing was great about our visit. Service was not the best, food was nothing special, and indoor atmosphere felt old and musty. Outdoor patio option is nice.
