I’ve been to this restaurant several times, and Karen is by far the best staff member I’ve encountered. The first time I met her was on a busy weekend dinner — she was working at the front desk and remained patient, friendly, and welcoming despite the long line.
What impressed me even more was tonight’s visit on a weekday dinner. She was serving tables, and every time I needed something, she responded quickly and always with great manners. When I went to the self-serve snack area, I even noticed her tidying up the trays and arranging the food beautifully during her spare moments. This level of attention to detail is truly admirable.
Previously, I brought friends here and happened to encounter another waitress whose attitude was very lazy — chatting, avoiding service, and always pushing tasks to new staff. That experience left a bad impression on my friends.
I genuinely hope the owner keeps excellent employees like Karen. Her positivity, politeness, and professionalism really make a difference.

I rarely leave a review and let things be but there must be something said about this place. Before I even looked at the menu I had to use the washroom. Both urinals were full of pee! The toilet was dirty and the floor was super greasy my feet were sliding as I was washing my hands. We ordered the “diamond” option for all you can eat. $60 per person. We ordered some skewers to start and selected our hot pot items. The bone broth was extremely salty in one of our bowls of hot pot and told our server. The server said “I’ll bring some hot water”. Still salty after adding some hot water so we stopped eating that. We wanted to order more skewers and another server said “it’s coming around” but we weren’t explained what was coming “around” since it was our first time. So we waited and waited but nothing we wanted came around. So we still had to order from the menu. We asked for their seasonal fruit that was on the menu but our server said there’s no fruit. So we asked for their buttery corn and was told to help ourselves at the self service side where the cooked food were. No corn there either. We asked for certain items only to have the server roll her eyes at us. We asked for more napkins for a table of 10+ people and were given 2 napkins. We noticed most of the female servers had bad attitudes when it wasn’t that busy for a Saturday. Ultimately service was horrible and the food was not worth the money. The experience we had was horrendous.

Food is decent!
But we ordered their signature lamb (their best seller on the mid $45 tier) on the first round, had to follow up 3 times and finally got it a half-grilled skewer when we are just about to get the bill. It tasted undercook and we unfortunately had to send it back. We understand that they probably cook in batches but not getting their best seller skewers in 90 minutes is not ideal.
We didn't try their malatang (even though its included) because it didn't look too appetitzing
Service is generally good and they are nice, but cleanness and the environment leaves a lot to be desired (see all the tissue paper on the floors).

I recently visited The Meat Up BBQ in Richmond, and unfortunately the experience fell far below expectations.
To start, ordering food was impossible to do all at once. Dishes arrived in 10-minute (or longer) intervals, which made it frustrating to enjoy a meal together. At one point, we even waited over 25 minutes for a single piece of toast, which is unacceptable for any restaurant.
The selection was extremely limited, with multiple items unavailable—including no fruit at all, despite it being advertised.
We also noticed that a single can of pop was $3 and non-refillable, which felt overpriced given the quality and overall experience.
One of the only mildly positive aspects was the ice cream, but even that fell short. While it tasted good, customers were only given one very small scoop, making it more of a token treat than a real dessert.
A major concern was the cleanliness and safety of the restaurant. The floor was slippery, clearly from grease mixed with water, and I witnessed a lady halfway trip because of it. This is a safety hazard that needs urgent attention.
Even the water provided on the table was concerning. It came in a vase, and when we poured it into our cups, there was a noticeable layer of grime or slime floating on top, making it extremely unappealing and raising questions about cleanliness standards.
The biggest issue, however, was the pricing structure. Nowhere on their menu or online does it say that the standard tier is unavailable, yet when we arrived, we were told we HAD to purchase the Gold Tier because the standard tier “wasn’t available today.” This lack of transparency felt misleading and unfair.
Overall, The Meat Up BBQ needs serious improvements in transparency, cleanliness, safety, service flow, and food availability. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend it.

Weekdays lunch buffet, excellent value. The service was great and the food quality throughout was good. We will be back 😁.

I went to a meetup BBQ here with 14 people (four families) last week The service was slow and unhelpful, and when we asked staff for assistance they made rude facial gestures toward us. At the end of the meal they refused to split the ~$650 bill fairly between the families. The combination of poor service and disrespect ruined our event. I asked management for a resolution and did not receive one. I will not return. Make sure to serve customers by standards, not by skin color.

Overall experience was only okay. We were a party of 5 and walked in on a Friday around 8pm and there was surprisingly no wait. Only the Gold and Diamond tiers were available, so we ended up getting Gold and ordered a variety of skewers. The skewers didn’t really stand out, some were dry and the flavour profiles weren’t that distinct. We also did try the hot pot and that was only alright as well, my pot wasn’t very hot but my friend’s was piping hot. There’s also a self serve section for snacks & cold dishes that were also pretty unappealing - a lot of the items looked kind of sad like they had been left out there for a while.
Saw a few other reviews mentioning this but what was really disappointing is that the dessert is ice cream and there’s a limit of one scoop per person and the scoops are really tiny. It was disappointing because the ice cream was actually quite tasty and probably my favourite item there. Overall sentiment is that my friends and I will not be coming back again.

The floor is oily. The utensils are unsanitary. The food is not fresh. No services at all.

I feel like this place is a scam, I paid close to 70$ for the all you can eat option. First of all in the weekends they only offer gold and diamond. When you first arrive they treat you well and everything is fast. But gradually everything takes more, the 3rd time I ordered 5 skewers took about 25minutes. By the time I got them I was full. I don’t think its worth it honestly. Really bad service and feeling ripped off.

I got food poisoning.
Went with my friends on Monday and it is now Wednesday and I’ve been liquid pooping since, also woke up feverish today.
I remember coming here about a decade ago before they rebranded and I had food poisoning from their skewers for almost a week and was traumatized, couldn’t figure out if it was the food handling or just the seasoning. The two friends I went with also suffered from diarrhea.
I would recommend staying away from the clams, while delicious (I ate an entire bowl), I’m not 100% sure that it is food safe being out in the open like that uncovered and not on ice.
We got the gold tier ayce and only a handful of the skewers were good like the beef skewers and the honey toast, the rest were okay/not impressionable.
Really wished they could do split bills, luckily our group is low maintenance and no one had problems just etransfering.
