Best in Richmond so far, only the rolls are not cut tru 100%
But love it
Add on : after 15years being so happy white this place, I have to share my last experience. As it happens sometimes during the Week, after a long day, I get spicy salmon don for my self. I love watching the sushi chef as usual, but today I start to think differently. As he was cutting the fish in small pieces and adding the spicy sauce/ vegetables, he did not put the whole portion on top of the rise, like normally . Instead he turned to the sink behind him and eat the rest with his fingers out of the mixing bowl. A question of hygiene and good service, I was so surprised, and I am not sure if I still want to eat my take out th. We have been eating at Tokyo's for 15y every friday...never saw that!

The sushi quality is above average for what seems to be a family run restaurant. The service was excellent as our tea was refilled without being asked and was even given a refill of miso soup What we found unusual was the beef teriyaki set came on a plate instead of a bento box. In terms of atmosphere, the interior looks and feels quite aged. The dine-in menu was just a printed piece of letter size paper Overall, I felt I was back in a 80' style dinner.

January 2022 - Got a bad batch, the salmon just reeked and was so fishy, it was completely spoiled and should not be consumed. Same with the tuna, it was ghost white and tasted just awful. The salmon stunk so bad my instincts told me I would get pretty sick if I ate it. God knows how old this fish is, maybe a week or more I would guess, and that is still from after being thawed out frozen. I'm giving an extra star because the servers are really nice and gave me a free miso soup. Unfortunately looks like a case of an absent owner and zero quality assurance or internal care happening with food prep. Not good at all.
Updated Oct 2026:
Went back today, got Tuna, Toro, Salmon sushi. I was completely surprised this fish was so FRESH. Almost as good as Kura or Sushiro in Japan honestly. I don't know if Thursday is the day to go, but it was really great. Clearly have stepped up over the last few years. Keep it up!
Small place but amazing food 😋

The fish was incredibly fresh and the service was excellent. As someone who truly loves sashimi, this place is simply the best. The Korean owner was so kind and welcoming, which makes me want to come back again and again. From now on, I’ll definitely be ordering all my sushi and sashimi trays from here! And also Sooooo Fast!!!

Here's a nice review for Tokyo Joe's, highlighting their sashimi and sushi, affordability, free parking, customer service, and selection:
A fantastic spot for fresh and delicious Japanese food, Tokyo Joe's is a true gem. I've been on the hunt for a place that serves top-quality sashimi and sushi without breaking the bank, and Tokyo Joe's has exceeded all my expectations.
The sashimi is incredibly fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and sliced to perfection. The sushi rolls are equally impressive, with a wide variety of creative and classic options to choose from. Each piece is crafted with care, and you can truly taste the quality of the ingredients.
Beyond the incredible food, the experience is made even better by the genuinely friendly and attentive staff. The customer service is excellent, making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door.
To top it all off, the prices are incredibly affordable for the quality and portion sizes you receive. Plus, the convenience of free parking is a huge bonus. If you're a fan of authentic Japanese cuisine and appreciate a wide selection, great service, and great value, Tokyo Joe's is the place to go. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back!
