Torake is a small, tucked away hidden gem. The food is consistently excellent, and the value is hard to beat. We’ve been back several times and will keep coming back.

My first visit yesterday: Torake is a small (18 seat, 4 at the chef’s bar) sushi restaurant in a mini strip mall in south Richmond. Very worth the trip from Vancouver. Two tasting menus (one more year-round items; the other more seasonal, which is what we ordered), plus a la carte ordering, with an extensive and interesting sake selection (many off-menu, unique choices not found anywhere else; the owners pride themselves on continually sourcing interesting choices), with a knowledgeable server and pre-order tasting. The food is interesting and excellent; the sushi is outstanding. A real gem of a place. Open for just over two years now, this is now on my roster of regular haunts. I didn’t try the sake pairings but really must next time. Also, sitting at the bar is great if you like doing that. The room is perfectly decorated in that stylishly understated way such that, but for the patrons mostly not speaking Japanese, you’d imagine you’re in Tokyo or Osaka. I found the chairs to be both stylish and comfortable, which is so rare as to be noteworthy. Service was also impeccable. It’s not cheap but the prices are fair for the value you get. A real gem. Go before it gets so popular you can’t get a table.

Highly recommended! The food is creative and delicious. The chef and servers are also very nice. My boyfriend doesn’t feel good during the session and the chef was so caring. They also offered to move us to the next session if we could not finish. Will definitely come again!

Great sampling,such a good assortment softshell crab, sashimi , poach egg with seafood and truffle oil. Tha chirashi bowl was very good nice assortment, will return next time in town 😀

This was one of my top favourite omakase in Vancouver. Everything was fresh and very flavourful. The price was reasonable and I think it’s worth it. The service was good and attentive. Friendly chefs as well! I got the premium set, but I got additional items on the side because I wasn’t too full yet.
