We had many meals at this restaurant as we were staying the week with whole family at the Josie Hotel where this restaurant is located. Our son has celiac and the local options were limited. The chef was incredibly great about this and we felt safe eating here with our need for gluten-free options. This is our second long stay at the hotel and I will say this time around the food was MUCH better. Dinner was particularly strong. We had vegetarian, meat, fish, and I was very happy with everything. We splurged one night for their special event Winery dinner, a local winery was pouring their wines and the chef created a special menu. One of our boys was underage and they brought him a special non-alcoholic creation for each course. For our son with celiac he substituted some menu items for us and he had a great meal. We plan to come back again to Red which is a great ski mountain and we will come back to The Velvet Restaurant. I may have gained a couple pounds despite all this skiing! One caveat- this restaurant is expensive, but the value felt ok as it was delicious.

Amazing food. Went twice this week with family and these were the hits: the pasta, the cod, the duck and the calamari! Would be even better if they had a gluten free fryer. Great service.

Nice location right at the base of the ski hill and a comfy room though not cozy. It is very loud with seeming little effort to absorb ambient sound that bounces around the concrete ceilings and hard surface floor. Food was average ... $65 steak and I expected better quality meat ... roasted carrots were way too raw and purée was just a tiny squirt hiding under the carrots. Bread is not served even when asked for ... and two small roasted potatoes made up the plate. Entire plate was pale yellow and beige

Our experience tonight was not what we expect from The Velvet. We are local and dine here fairly often. Usually our experience is good, but not tonight. Service was slow and server didn't send in the appie order (which she corrected with a free dessert). Our local beer was almost flat. The food was underwhelming. Burger was mediocre for $32. Duck portion small, rubbery, not crispy skin, brussels sprouts sickly sweet. We usually say something so staff have an opportunity to correct the problem, but the whole experience was so off that there was no hope of recovery. I hope you guys get back in the game and live up to all the 5 stars in these reviews.

I stopped in for happy hour from 3-4 pm after a day at Red Mountain. This was my first time here and was very impressed with the service .. everyone was very friendly . There is quite a large centre bar, which was even had padding for your arms on it. Nice touch! It’s very easy to get a seat at the bar even during happy hour, so a good alternative when Rafters is busy. The beer was cheap during happy hour, and very good. I also had the Ramen, which was surprisingly excellent probably the best Ramen I’ve had outside of Vancouver. Also had Bao buns which were tasty as well. I highly recommend stopping by.

We ate at the Velvet for breakfast, lunch, après, and dinner throughout a four day stay at the Josie. The menu is exquisite! Highly recommend the pork belly ramen, both the pork belly and cauliflower bao buns, the bone marrow, and the dark chocolate mousse. The service was fantastic, food was amazing, and you can't beat the views. There was space for us to hang our helmets and gear and the restaurant is located right by the ski concierge, so you can literally ski right in for après! They were so sweet to our toddler and he loved the food too. His hot chocolate was perfect!Kid-friendliness: Our 3 year old loved the hot chocolate and burger! Our waitress was so sweet to him and we were so happy with all our experiences here.

Ordered a beer, came with a shard of glass in the foam. Luckily I didn't cut my mouth or swallow it. I did cut my finger with it. Server did replace the beer and while I didn't make a fuss (as I understand these things happen), nothing was done to further right this wrong.

Food and service was excellent- knowledgeable waitress regarding wine. Restaurant was quiet particularly for a Saturday night. Free shuttle bus up the mountain from Rossland made for a relaxing night

Service was great, drinks were excellent and the food was amazing. It's on the expensive side but the quality was very high. If you're looking for a great night out this is a great place to go!

The 5 course dinner was expensive but was very good. The wine pairing was very poor. A couple of times the wine came after we had almost finished the course. The waiter gave no information about the wine other than to tell us the country and the type i.e. chardonnay, riesling - after we asked. Normally at a wine pairing I would expect to see the bottle and hear some information about that particular wine. The music was okay, but we had sort of thought as it was New Years, that there might be some dancing and it wasn't really dance music even if we had been seated in the area where the band was. Overall, the Velvet continues to not live up to the event as advertised.

Cool experience, however every restaurant should always have a chicken option on their menu. This menu had fish, duck, lamb, and the only predictable textured meat was beef. And patrons also need an option of plate v board for their food too.

High quality food presented in a fancy way.Considering the high prices one would expect some extra's from the chef but unfortunately nothing.Good /friendly service.Atmosphere can be nice but not if it is empty (as we experienced)Overall good food but expensive

Our server was extremely good, she was on top of our every need. The food and drinks were served quickly and were wonderful and delicious. All staff within the hotel were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back for another celebration in the future. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
