The menu is now Italian and it is excellent! I'm not a fan of pizza & spaghetti "Italian" places but Riva's menu and dishes are delicious & authentic. They recently accommodated our large family group (2 tables) for a special dinner. Our server was so professional (rare these days) Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals & wine (I can't say enough about how good the menu is!!) I had the lobster risotto with a cauliflower starter....amazing! Many of us took home "doggie bags". Delicious rich food. One of the best meals I have had in years.
Really bad service. Great location but a fail on food, drink and service. Unfortunately this place has not improved even though they changed the chairs and menu.
We went to celebrate my husbands birthday and normally being of Italian heritage I don't go out to Italian restaurants, however we loved the location and thought we would give it a try. Upon entering I was immediately impressed with the decor. It was lovely and made me feel at home. Our server Merril was wonderful, even with a mask on I could she she had a beautiful smile! My husband had the gnocchi with bison bolognese sauce and it was fantastic. The sauce was homemade and the taste fantastic. I had the Caprese salad and even though having been to Capri it didn't look like the same it was non the less delicious. The buffalo mozzarella was super tasty and the cherry tomatoes were delicious. It was an interesting take on the "normal" caprese salad but like I said it was good. After we had finished our meal we were pleasantly surprised when sitting near us were the owners of the restaurant. They asked us how we liked our meal and what we thought of the new look to this restaurant. We ended up having a wonderful conversation and I was so impressed with their warmth and how lovely they were. We wished them great success with this new restaurant.
First off, this is no longer the Beacon Landing. It is now Riva, with an Italian menu as mentioned in other reviews. While living on a nearby island we sometimes stopped at the Beacon for a glass of wine or snack before heading to our ferry. Last night we were needing a late dinner after arriving back at Swartz Bay and decided on the Beacon. In the past it had not been stellar, but was generally reliable. We were surprised to see that the menu had been changed entirely. Our server, Lauren, was great. Absolutely no complaints there. However, the food was another matter all together. We ordered calamari to start. It came out quickly, the dish was hot and the squid was tender. However, the coating had almost no flavour and the dip that accompanied it was a runny, warm, tomato sauce which was also flavourless. Where was the garlic aioli??? The pile of raw onions plopped on top was neither attractive or tasty. I ordered a Caprese salad and my partner ordered a Panini. When the salad arrived my first thought was that someone had thrown up in the bowl. I have never seen a Caprese presented this way. The cherry tomatoes, globs of boccincini that looked like cottage cheese and strips of basil that had clearly been prepped some time earlier were all tossed together in a big mush and were visually unappealing to say the least. I cannot believe that any chef would send that dish out of the kitchen. The taste was no better. Everything about the dish was just wrong. My partners panini was “average at best”. The sandwich was also accompanied by the same runny tomato sauce. I hope that the menu and kitchen gets sorted out. As others have mentioned, this is a great location with a gorgeous view and a lovely patio. Unfortunately, at this point we will not ever return.
I am a bit surprised about a few newer reviews of this menu. To be fair the old menu was tired and for me not much to choose from (digestive issues) But the place was always friendly and their is no better view in town. The newer restaurant across the street also has a wonderful patio but their menu was very limited and seemed to be mostly drinks and finger foods. The new menu is just fantastic. I had read in the paper that they were introducing a new Italian menu. I had the spaghettini & my husband had the lasagna. HOT and delicious and good service although we all know with COVID many places are having staff issues trying to get people back to work. The CHEF came out, talked to us & everyone on the patio about their new meals, and all were commending him for the great food. Love the red umbrellas, the water view & Mt Baker on a clear day was just super. Thanks again and enjoy your day in Sydney.
We came here on Mother's Day only because 10 Acres, across the street, was quoting a 30 - 45 minute wait and this place could seat us immediately - for good reason.
We had dinner here with friends, the attraction was the new Italian Menu. Even though it was may, it was pleasant enough to sit out on the patio. They have it nicely surrounded with tall glass, and the vistas are the best in sidney ...well, probably the vistas are world class. The wine list, by the glass, or by the bottle was ok, featuring both Italian wines and several BC wines. Oh yes, and PERONI, a nice Italian beer. The food, well, we all had a Caesar salad to start ...The menu did say the word 'Kale', and a little kale mixed into a Caesar can brighten it up nicely, ; but this was all Kale, mixed in with bread crumbs and doused with olive oil. for me, it was as if I was eating something intended for a horse, I quizzed my three dinner companions, and all of the said they loved a Caesar salad, but would never order this again. For our mains, my bride had their meat balls. She loved them and it was too much food, so she brought one home for a later lunch. For me, I had spagatteni with garlic. OMG; It must of had 50 slices off a garlic clove in it. It was just overpowering. Sorry folks, don't go here for the food. The views over the water are lovely, but that is the only reason to go.
Great food and beverages that are unique and finely tuned. My Chicken burger was top knotch!
Beacon Landing is a Sidney staple and has nice views of the water and pier. However, although charming, it’s getting a little dated in there and could probably use some sprucing. Service was excellent and attentive but the prices are also quite steep for what you get. We ordered a large clam chowder and it was a very small bowl that disappeared rather quickly. The order of fries however was humongous so we filled up on those instead.
We visit this pub on our visits to Sidney. It is consistently good, food and service very pleasant. Beautiful spot on the waterfront. Highly recommend

We had the best nachos ever served. 2 portions of sour cream, guacamole and home made salsa. And cold beer.
Pub style food which exceeded my expectations. Big portions and served hot. The atmosphere was delightful. Hats off to the chef and the staff!
Excellent fish and chips. Nice to go in and have a bit of normal. They have all the covid measures covered. But please bring back the Fat Tug!
Great view with fresh food. Certainly a good choice to have lunch and/ or dinner. Moderately priced.
great place to eat and have drinks. I had the mussels which I recommend. Staff are friendly.
