Great food, great service. I pick this pub to hang out with my friends. The staff are friendly and there is always something yummy on the menu. I am a local, so there is a *little* bit of bias (very very very tiny). Great place to eat in Sidney, highly recommend.

The staff was great, service and food was terrific -- we had the prawns which was on special-- we highly recommend the salt-and-pepper prawns wirh garlic butter on the side !! Absolutely delicious!!

I was fortunate enough to visit on open mic night and the theme was Irish music which was fantastic. The service was slow at first but it was during a shift change and was better afterwards. I ordered a Philly Cheese plate which was pretty decent and hit the spot.

Close to the Mary Winspear Centre where I was going for a concert. Stopped in for dinner and drinks before the concert with my wife and daughter. Food was good. Service was excellent. Friendly staff. We had the Dickens burger, my daughter had a chicken quesadilla, and we all had the yam fries. Great place to go.

Not Happy
I haven’t done a lot of reviews but I thought I would share my experience. I ordered the Prime Rib Burger thinking it would be a “better” burger. I was wrong. It was just a burger. Nothing special. It doesn’t even come with lettuce, or anything else for that matter. I had to ask for lettuce to be added. So, a burger patty that obviously was frozen, a bun with some sauce. Usually a Pub burger is really good, but in this case, it’s very much below par. If you want a burger, a 1/4 pounder next door may be a better choice.
We tried Dickens for a late meet up with friends. Two of the menu items were not available - no problem it happens.
I requested my drink be pressed and the waitress had no idea what that was. Again, no problem we are all learning. I asked for another and it was clearly not pressed. I asked and she said the bartender forgot. I waited for her to offer a solution and when she didn’t I said can you have them remake it. The answer was how about if I bring some water and you add to it. I refused saying that I didn’t want a watered down version. She left, never brought a replacement.
The right thing would be to replace immediately if you or one of your support staff made an error.
With so many great places in Sidney to meet up with friends I don’t recommend Dickens Public House. It was a poor reason to lose a customer.

Stopped in a few weeks ago after my friend’s moving day (moved to Sidney). We had a great experience and were surprised how great the food was! I had the beef dip which was superb (and I’m picky about my beef!), the gravy was top notch, my only “complaint” was that the fries were the coated kind but I know that’s just my personal preference as I love home-cut/non-crispy fries especially when dipping in yummy gravy which they have! Both the food and drink prices did not disappoint! The service was extremely friendly (which isn’t always the case in Victoria). Definitely had a small community, welcoming vibe. I will be back as a regular for sure!
