The service was friendly and professional. I was on a bit of a schedule, and the food was timely, arrived presented beautifully, and was delicious.
I love that they offer a Soup du Jour and a Daily Special.
10/10 will definitely return, will even make a special trip. Definitely want to try their Ceasar!

What a fantastic place! It didn’t look like much from the outside, but then you step in and I was impressed. The staff were very friendly. The atmosphere was wonderful. The waitress was a beautiful soul inside & out, and the food was scrumptious. Very good. We had the octopus for an appetizer, we had local beer and then we definitely stocked to the ocean style main meals when on the ocean must have ocean!

My first visit to the Surly Mermaid midweek looking for some refreshments. Late Jan. and I was thinking about Mexico I asked the very attentive server if she could make me a spice margarita it wasn’t on the menu but she said she had a great recipe. It was very tasty just what I needed ! Then I tried the Chili garlic prawns which were served in sizzling mini frying pan with a garlic Mexican chili butter cream sauce Yum Yum with warm baguette to dip in the sauce until it was gone so good which I washed down with more margarita. Highly recommend this place overlooking Sidney waterfront. I will be coming back !

Went here as we were dropping our daughter off at the airport. Got in ordered our food. Server was very friendly, personable, and efficient. Our drinks came and we chatted whole we waited. 20 min went by, a table of four sat behind us. They ordered within 10 minutes of sitting. So by this time we had been waiting over 30 min for an order of fishn'chips, a salmon burger and the special which was marinated beef tacos. Then within 15 min of ordering yhe food was delivered to the table of four ladies behind us! We asked where our orders were as we had now aat this point been waiting over 35min. They went into the kitchen and proceeded to put down our plates. So the kitchen decided to batch cook our orders, rather than prepare them as they were ordered. My 3 tacos were $30.00. Now had they had ANY flavor, I could have looked past them. There was not even a tablespoon of this specially slow cooked marinated beef in each taco. There was more raw onion in them than beef. That was it. No salt, pepper, or sauce to enhance the flavorless flat, devoid of meat tacos. The side corn was great. Had anyone come over to ask us how our food was, I would have explained that. However, our server/ bartender was extremely busy with making everyone's drinks in the bar. The horrible kitchen food is not a reflection of the service we received. And because we had waited 40 min for ourpub food that should have been out in 10min like the ladies behind us, we were on a time schedule. The salmon burger was overdone, dry and very disappointing. If you do decide to go here,get the fishn'chips or the burgers. Everyone in the restaurant was getting either one of those. Now, when we had paid, and our server asked how the food was,we let her know how horrible the taco plate was. I could not eat more than one of the meatless, tough shells. She said she would have taken it off the bill if we had said something before saying. We are kot those people. I have never once returned something back to a kitchen except for a completely raw burger. If we had been asked about our meal, I most likely would have let them know it was indelible.

I usually don't put a bad review on a local business, but this restaurant really needs to consider changing how they treat their customers. Being fair and respectful are the basic ingredients. Food was also so bad that we couldn't finish.
