Ended up dinning here at the end of a roadtrip, food was great i believe i had moms chicken with gravy and biscuit it was delicious. This place definitely delivers as dinner expectation its your stereotypical dinner and doesnt try to be something its not.

Went for breakfast. Waitress totally ignored us while she busied herself serving coffee and taking orders immediately to two tables who arrived after us. We had to inform another waitress that we were ready to order, who seemed a bit irked that we had signaled her over. This is not Jim Crowe, this is supposed to be tourist friendly Sooke. If you don't want people of colour coming to your restaurant put a sign on your door. It wasn't lost on us that the waitress was 'Asian'.

I live in Sooke (over 30 years) and have gone to Mom's Cafe several times over those many years. The last few times over the past few years seems the quality of the food has gone down hill. I attempted to try it again today. I ordered the veggie hash. I remember ordering it many years ago and it had grilled zucchini, carrots, onions, real grilled potatoes, with eggs...it was so delicious. The veggie hash I had today was absolutely disgusting. The veggies looked like they were part of a dehydrated, bulk barn, soup mix. I was told the veggies were fresh roasted, but that was not the case. It was tiny little bits of soggy, discolored vegetables common in powerdered soup stock, and over the chart for salty taste. And after the first bite, I felt sick. I have allergies to wheat and asked the wait staff if it had any wheat in it...they said no. But I couldn't finish it...it was so salty and I felt ill, like I do if i accidently eat wheat And yes, I fully let wait staff know that it was not good. I got the meal partially discounted off my bill but I feel the owners need to see this review.
I'm not certain what is happening, but Mom's Cafe used to have amazing food, both in taste and price. The last few years, after new owners have taken over, the quality of the food has slowly gone down hill, but prices have gone up, even for the simplest things. People used to line up outside the restaurant and it was always full, you could hardly get seating. Today, only a few people were in the restaurant...and it's been that way for the past times I've visited over the last 5 years.
The service is great, the atmosphere is iconic, but the food is no longer as good like it used to be. So sad for a once amazing Sooke icon. 😔

It's a very old brunch restaurant, and the employees always treat customers with a smile and the food is delicious. It is a restaurant that is expected to develop in the future as the surroundings have been cleaned recently.
