Tacky for a place to ask for tip before service is fully completed, and especially for a place that you are standing to order. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and the cream cheese was not even spread on for me even though my hands were full carrying a baby. This type of service does not deserve a tip at all so it shouldn't even ask pre-emptively.
