I enjoy driving out of my way to try different restaurants and I’m glad I visited Malaysian hut for Lunch. Chef and owner Irene was very friendly and hospitable, kind reminder for all to call in advance to reserve a table as seating is limited and some items are limited in stock. Although we didn’t know to call to reserve in advance but we got seated upon arrival on Friday. We had Penang char kway teow and nasi lemak. The char kway teow has excellent “wok hei”, also known has Smokey/ charred flavor in Asian cooking. The nasi lemak was full of flavour as well, the two of us cleared the plates and was spoiled with dessert on the house after Irene found out we drove all the way from Burnaby to try her food. We left feeling our tummy and heart was full, thank you Irene for the delicious meal and we left feeling so taken care of. Looking forward to return to try other dishes with the family.

Simple decor, great service, and authentic Malaysian Chinese dishes. Malaysian Hut has been in business since 1998, and still owner/chef preparing all the dishes.

sarawak curry laksa (18) / hainan chicken (17)

Had the roti canai which was hot, fresh, fluffy and flaky with a curry sauce that fused nicely together. Next was the chicken satay served with a peanut sauce and a side of pineapples and cucumbers. The texture was soft and tasty and quite unlike any satay I’ve had. The main was the Penang char kway teow, a rice noodle dish with beans sprouts, sliced Chinese sausages and prawns. Tis was not to my taste as it has a burnt flavour, and I got only two prawns for the whole dish even though I had asked for the Chinese sausages to be swapped out. The service was ok and I was asked if I wanted hot or cold water on arrival. Ambience is simple, and the establishment is cash only (debit card may be accepted). Irene, the chef/ owner came to chat and seemed pleasant. Great place for authentic Malaysian meals, and comes highly recommended

Had lunch here recently and really enjoyed my experience here. The owner/chef was super kind and friendly, taking time to explain some of the dishes to us and making sure everything was ok. We ordered the sarawak laksa and it was super flavourful and rich. The roti was also very crisp and fresh. Would definitely come back again!

Please note that it's cash only, so come prepared!

Great authentic Malaysian Cuisine

I had a deeply disappointing experience at Malaysian Hut today. We ordered our food to be spicy, expecting authentic flavors, but instead received dishes that were excessively spicy due to an overwhelming amount of chili powder and spices, making them inedible. There was no balance or consideration in the spice level, and the server failed to inform us about how spicy the dishes would be, which should have been communicated.

When we expressed our dissatisfaction and needed to return the food, they refused and insisted we pay for the meal, showing an alarming lack of regard for customer satisfaction. When we escalated the issue to the owner, her response was dismissive and rude. She refused to acknowledge our concerns, treating us in a manner that was rude, unprofessional and unwelcoming.

Based on this experience, I strongly discourage others from dining at Malaysian Hut. Both the food quality and the service were unacceptable, and the disregard for customer feedback was highly unprofessional.

I had a very unsatisfactory experience at Malaysian Hut in Surrey. The food was unappetizing, with a heavy, unpleasant residue from the broth and poorly prepared dishes. We had requested some spice for the nasi goreng and mee goreng based on the waiter's suggestion, but instead, the meals were simply covered in raw chili powder, resulting in an off-putting texture and taste.
When we expressed our concerns, the waiter was initially reluctant to relay our feedback. Eventually, the kitchen responded dismissively, returning our dishes unchanged and stating they couldn't remake them since they had already invested in the ingredients. When we asked to speak with the owner, her reaction was rude and defensive. Rather than addressing our issues, she insulted us, insisting that the food was acceptable simply because she could eat it, and dismissed our feedback in a condescending manner.

The owner exhibited a patronizing demeanor and showed a concerning disregard for customer respect. Her behavior felt discriminatory, and she was unwilling to acknowledge any feedback regarding her food. The lack of professionalism and her dismissive response to our concerns were truly unsettling.

I had a disappointing experience at Malaysian Hut in Surrey. Unfortunately, the food was inedible—soaked in residue from the broth and poorly executed. Refer to the attached photos. Despite asking for a bit of spice based on the waiter's recommendation for the nasi goreng and mee goreng, our dishes were just doused with raw chili powder, resulting in a terrible texture and flavor (see photos).

When we raised our concerns, the waiter was hesitant to report it, but eventually did. The kitchen's response was dismissive; they returned the food unchanged and claimed there was nothing they could do as they've spent money on the ingredients already and cannot remake it unless we were willing to buy a fresh dish. We then asked to speak to the owner, who was incredibly rude and defensive. Instead of addressing our concerns, she personally attacked us, insisting that the food was fine because she could eat it, and belittling us for our feedback.

The owner, a woman, was incredibly condescending and displayed a complete lack of decency in her treatment of customers. She came across as quite racist and was unable to accept any criticism about her dishes. Her dismissive attitude and refusal to address our concerns were both shocking and unprofessional.

This kind of treatment is unacceptable, especially over a simple request to improve the dish's quality. We were forced to pay the full price for a meal we couldn't eat. I’ve never encountered such poor service and disrespect in a restaurant. I cannot recommend Malaysian Hut based on this experience.

The owner's wife was very professional and friendly. While waiting we got a complimentary roti. Place is clean and quiet. I have known this place for years and always came back to Malaysian hut for some authentic Malaysian cuisine. My favourite dish is the fish ball noodle soup and roti. ? Remember to bring cash because it's a cash only restaurant.
