Had both the halibut and lingcod meals. Both were pretty good, a bit steeper price compared to others I’ve had on the island.

We ended up at Big Daddy’s Fish Fry in Tofino after asking ChatGPT for the best fish and chips in town. Hunger decided for us, so we didn’t hesitate.
The ordering system feels rushed – you pay at the window before even seeing the food and are encouraged to tip right away, starting at 10%. Service at the counter was fine, but nothing special. After getting a buzzer, another staff member led us to a table. At first we were seated in what felt like a school cafeteria side alley, but after asking, we were moved to bar stools with a street view, which was much better.
The place doesn’t serve alcohol, so it’s water only, with colourful plastic cups. When your buzzer goes off, you pick up your food yourself – which makes you wonder what the tip was for, though hopefully it goes to the kitchen team working hard in the heat.
Now the highlight: the food. We ordered the halibut fish and chips twice (the first portion is $30, the second fish is an extra $15). It came with coleslaw and was phenomenal. Perfectly golden, great flavour, crispy fries – honestly some of the best fish and chips I’ve had.
Washrooms were clean and the overall atmosphere had a simple island feel, not particularly original but pleasant enough.
Summary: Service and setup could be better, but the food alone makes Big Daddy’s worth a visit. If you’re after top-notch fish and chips, this is the place.

Overpriced and undersized. Not worth it at all, wouldn’t recommend or go back.

Had the halibut and chips which was excellent. Not greasy or oily and a lot of flavour. The chowder was also great.

We ate at this restaurant two days in a row while visiting Tofino from the Okanagan. We loved the food. Portions sizes were large. We recommend the fried chicken sandwich as well as the lingcod, halibut and chips and the seafood chowder. It wasn’t overly greasy and tasted very fresh.

If you are looking of fish and chips look no further than Big Daddy’s Fish Fry in Tofino on Vancouver Island. The best Halibut on the island coated with their special proprietary batter. Matt, Ali, Gavin, Hannah, Jason and Sal know what customer service excellence is all about. Great food, customer service and good value for money makes Big Daddy’s a must stop the next time you are in Tofino. Great job!!!!!

Seafood Chowder was like better than restaurant quality, perfectly portioned ingredients, a big creamy, not grossly seafoody, top tier.

We ordered some nice dinner from the menu for quick bit. The smoky fish dip is salty so I took all over your mouth besides giving you the taste. Rest of the food are great. It take awhile for food to be ready so no problem of that since they are busy.
