I plugged my car in downtown Tofino to charge up and then walked down to Shelter Restaurant. This was my first time visiting since the original site burnt down and they moved to a new location beside the water. I would say that everything is better. Much better atmosphere, still great prices, and very good tasting food. A must visit!

We sat outside on the patio were astounded at the spectacular views. If your in Tofino this is must stop for a delicious dining experience. I got local wild salmon in a rice bowl. Incredible!

2025 update Good food. BUT Service was lacking. They told us its a mandatory 20% gratuity because we were a group of 8. But we were ignored, drinks not refilled orboffered to refil. . No one came to ask if things were okay. We spent more time waiting for the bill than for our food. we had the worst service we have received here. it was not a very busy day when we went. Kids menu is available. So won't be going again.
I wish I could come here again and again. The food was amazing. Great service from Melissa. And what a view. Well worth every penny!

From the very first time we visited Shelter, we knew it was where we wanted to celebrate our wedding. The food, the people, and the atmosphere are all truly incredible. Our wedding day was an absolute dream. Even though the weather didn’t allow us to have the layout we originally envisioned, it turned out even better than we imagined. The staff were so kind, attentive, and professional while still keeping the energy fun and uplifting throughout the night.
The food was phenomenal—from the canapés to the entrées to dessert—our guests kept saying it was the best wedding meal they had ever had. The location itself can’t be beat, with a patio for cocktail hour overlooking the marina that created the most breathtaking backdrop. We even had sea lions pop out of the water during cocktail hour—it felt like its own little performance and was such a highlight for our out-of-town guests! We had an absolute blast and couldn’t have picked a better spot to host our wedding. Shelter is truly exceptional, and we would recommend it to anyone!

The Shelter is home. We love Tofino and this place is its good vibes classy pub. Booking essential for lunch and dinner (at least in August), walk ins accepted but the wait can be long. To me, this is the place.

Best oysters I’ve ever had in my life. We started with a half dozen and then asked for the other half.
Chowder was good but also gluten free, so not super creamy (guessing there was no flour based roux) and the salmon and kale bowl was very delicious (great balance of sweet, savory, and creamy - the kale is chopped super fine so the texture was what set it apart!)
