I came here after a long work day and wanted to have a nice glass of red and unwind. Thankful for the best service from Kiera, she was so kind and attentive. We will definitely be back again, the food and music and ambience was perfect. Salmon sashimi is up there for best in the city . Thank you !!

Beautiful location, but that’s where the positives end. The food was mediocre for the price — my halibut was overcooked, the shellfish were rubbery, and the “lobster risotto” had hardly any lobster at all. For a $250 dinner for two, you expect much better.

The service was truly awful. We waited 15 minutes before even being greeted after we had been sat at our table, half an hour for cocktails, and nearly two hours for our mains. Not once were our waters refilled or were we asked if we wanted another drink. I finally had to flag someone down just to order a glass of wine with my meal. We felt ignored from start to finish.

This was supposed to be a special night out, and instead it was frustrating and disappointing. I would never recommend Ancora, and I will not be going back.

The restaurant has a beautiful and cozy ambiance. The dishes are highly specialized with unique flavors, though the portions are a bit small 😉. I especially loved the distinct taste of the octopus and halibut—truly exceptional!

We went here with a group of 18 for a 50th birthday party yesterday. The service was awful. It took literally an hour before anyone got a glass of wine. We were barely greeted by the servers. The food was bland and boring. One of our bottles of wine was off and there were no apologies or any consideration for our experience. I honestly haven’t had such a poor restaurant experience in years. We tried to ask for a few little accommodations and all were shot down. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. Such a shame.

This used to be one of our favourite spots and I’m concerned it may be losing its touch. For the price range, it feels like Ancora is squeezing every dollar and the service just wasn’t what it used to be. The seafood platter had an unusually small ceviche, and it was just bizarre to have a handful of corn nuts filling the space. I hope the owners can turn it around because we would love to see this place return to its former glory.

Atmosphere is good but service is slow and not active at all, we had to wait 40 mins for food and had to call the servers twice to refill water. Paella has only two tiny shrimps with cost of $28, extremely not worth it. That is why Sat lunch time with only two tables of guests. Both food and service need to be improved.

Emailed sent to Deena two weeks ago without any responses so far...Disappointing. Not recommend this restaurant to anyone!

As a person who isn’t used to or fond of seafood, this was an eye-opener. Tried all kinds of dishes including octopus, oysters, halibut, etc. All were unexpectedly delicious and were a big surprise to me. Maybe seafood isn’t too bad.

Service was excellent and staff were very professional and organized. Of course, the waterfront atmosphere is something to appreciate as well.

Food was great! The patio is divine in the summer.
N.B. The paella stained my teeth black, stay away if your teeth are stain-prone after Invisalign 🥺

Safety issue and zero accountability at a premium restaurant

We live just steps from Ancora and have dined here before, but this last experience was unacceptable—and unsafe.

I ordered the wild salmon sashimi. In two separate pieces, I found thick, sharp bones—not tiny pin bones, but large, obvious ones that simply shouldn’t be in sashimi at any restaurant, let alone one that claims to offer premium seafood. After finding the first, I cautiously continued, only to have the second piece scratch my throat as I unknowingly swallowed a second bone. I coughed all night and could feel the slice in my throat for days.

The dish was taken off the bill, but there was no apology, no concern expressed by the staff, and no follow-up—even after we called the restaurant afterward. Not a word.

At this price point, you expect precision, professionalism, and above all, accountability. Ancora delivered none of that.

Even though we live next door, we’ll gladly venture a little further to Blue Water next time—where we can actually enjoy a meal without worrying about what’s in each bite.

This is a truly horrific restaurant and I want anyone going to this place to be warned. As a former salmon fisherman, my knowledge and understanding of sushi is high. My wife came home from Ancora and immediately went to the bathroom where she was coughing and wrenching from having swallowed, not a pin bone, but a dorsal bone from sashimi. For anyone who knows sushi this is an almost impossible mistake and an unforgivable one as people have choked to death in this way. A sushi knife cutting through a dorsal bone is hard to not notice. A pin bone maybe, but not one this size. When I called to talk to management they promised to call me back, yet no one did. My wife even had to fight with them to not pay for the sushi, which she asked to have taken back as she was managing bones in her throat. No call back, no sorry. Please do not eat here. Go to blue water instead and enjoy something truly exceptional and representative of west coast excellence. Shameful restaurant.
