Good banh mi sandwiches here. They are quite filling and tasty. The bread is super crunchy too. The matcha coffee was okay.

Banned (since July 2024) bioplastics/oxo degradable cutlery is provided here. All clean paper products seem to go straight into garbage. This establishment can do much better.
High volume restaurant with great sandwiches and nostalgic taste.
Restaurant needs more to enforce delivery drivers not parking past the no-stopping sign in front of the restaurant as this disrupts right-turning traffic and is a huge safety hazard.

I had my very first sandwich and was looking forward to it. I was extremely dissatisfied. I ordered the lemongrass chicken thigh with sauce. It was dry and had no flavor. I had to take it hone and add sauce and seasoning. When I opened it I could hardly see any chicken. Worst sandwich I have ever had!

One of my coworkers bought me a takeout sandwich as a thank you and it was amazing. Even after 5 hours of working, I got to eat the sandwich while driving home and the bread was awesome and the filling amazing. Super tasty. I hope everyone tries the different Ba Le locations! Because someone bought it for me I can’t rate the location or service but I think it’s worth it! I can’t tell you how amazing and tasty the food is, you need to try it for yourself.

No doubt one of the best Vietnamese coffees in Vancouver, but decided to switch up and get a strawberry matcha today and it incredible! One of the best I’ve had.
I generally order for delivery and appreciate the extra packaging on the cups so there are no leaks.
Banh mi’s here are good too :)

Ba Le Rupert – What’s Going On?
This used to be our go-to spot, but things have really changed lately. My spouse and I have noticed a noticeable price hike—nearly a $1 increase per sandwich—and unfortunately, the value just isn’t there anymore.
Not only have the portions SHRUNK (blame this on inflation or greed?), but the lemongrass chicken has been consistently dry and lacking flavour, echoing what others have already mentioned in their reviews a year ago, yet still no improvements to this day.
Even with the coupons you send through email and text, it’s still cheaper to go elsewhere—and honestly, the quality is often better too. We’ve found other banh mi places around the city (including just across the street at the supermarket) that offer bigger portions, better bread, fresher, and more consistent flavour at a lower price.
The only highlight that remains is the Hanoi Drip coffee—still a solid choice. Bring back the coupons please.
Ba Le Rupert, we hope you take this as constructive feedback. Vancouver is already expensive and a foodie paradise, diners will naturally go where they get the best value. Do not become a Subway.
Please don’t lose what made you special in the first place and fall behind with the competition. Also, I don't prefer a generic response to my review. Actions/changes speaker louder than words.

Super disappointed.
Wanted catering for a small party. Website says you need to book a consultation call. I booked, no one called. I called them instead and no one knew there was such a thing as a consultation call.
I was told there’s no difference between catering and ordering online, both get you one sandwich free for 10 purchased. I bought 15…no free sandwich.
Last time I saw bale sandwiches at a party they were individually packaged so you can place them on a table and know what was in them. This time they were just wrapped with ends exposed in parchment with a barely readable number on them. What does that number correspond to? The only way to tell was an illegible grease soaked receipt.
Without an overwrap I had to individually plate them, but didn’t have the room, so the sandwiches took over the party area. Though I couldn’t really tell what the sandwiches were without a label, I know for sure the order was wrong because I asked for two vegan sandwiches (no mayo) but only got one and there was no cold cut. In total there were 3 sandwiches I couldn’t find. My second vegan friend had nothing to eat.
I wasted so much of my party trying to deal with the sandwiches, plating and sorting, trying to get my friends to eat the mystery sandwiches. It took so much away from the party. Was it so hard to add paper bags?!
In the end my friends decided not to bother.
Of the 15 sandwiches I ordered, only 6 were eaten. Since I’m vegetarian myself and a bunch of them are meat, I guess I’m tossing the majority of them. The sandwich I ate was delicious as usually but overall: waste of time, waste of money, party ruiner. Never again.

I ordered three sandwiches and asked for them to be cut into four pieces so I could share them at a potluck. I was then told by two employees why I was wrong to ask for that. Something to do with their manager not allowing them to do that because it would cause a mess. Funny how a customer is too silly to understand what they’re asking for. I begrudgingly said to cut them in half. After later unpacking them, I saw they hadn’t been cut at all. Zero for service.
Two stars for food. The bread was never warmed like other places and also dry and hard. I can tell fresh vs overnight buns. Would not go again. There are a dozen better sandwich shops in Vancouver.

I’ve been a Ba Le customer for 18 years. I was very happy when they opened on Rupert and my family and I frequent this location once a week. This review is solely based on my last couple of visits. I am giving them 2 stars for improper food storage. The last 2 months I’ve noticed that they leave their salad rolls just on the counter. They used to put it in the front cooler but for some reason proper storage is too much of a hassle. Last time I mentioned this to the teller, they responded with an, “Ok.” Yesterday when I raised the issue again, I received a sour dismissive attitude.
She told me that the rolls were made in the morning. I came at 12:30. Shrimp and cold cuts in room temperature on hot summer days spell, food poisoning. Do better Ba Le!

Restaurantji Recommends
Sandwiches were satisfying - they were airy and crunchy fresh. I wish there were more meat at the ends and slightly less mayonnaise throughout so it is lighter. The drinks were refreshing yet strong like a Vietnamese coffee would. The flavours make them unique and addictive. I recommend Ba Le. Also try their shrimp crackers if you got room.

Love the banh mis and vietnamese coffee here! The bread is fresh so it won't scratch up the roof of your mouth and service is quick and efficient.
There's not a lot of space to be seated especially during busy hours so prepare to take out.

Excellent Bang Mi. But the Ca Phe Sua Da? Holy God of caffeinated craziness!
Do not drink after 12pm. Not unless you work night shift. It is delicious, delightful and apparently made with Gummi Berry juice.
