A place I have been coming since I was a kid (now in my 30s!), that is as delicious as it is nostalgic. Today, I live in australia but on my way through vancouver on a 10h layover, the only thing on my mind was coming here for lunch. Get the roti, chicken skewers, green beans and ginger fish. None will disappoint. So grateful the menu here has remained the same and consistently delicious for so long 💕

My 8 year old daughter chose this restaurant on a whim, after I gave a hard “no” to dominos. We were not disappointed. Although a bit pricey, I think, I don’t know anymore, everything is bonkers at restaurants now
.anyhow
. My daughter doesn’t love heat but smashed 2 plates of chicken/veg curry and a good chuck of my prawns. The peppers were terrific as was everything else. We left stuffed and with leftovers to go. Would recommend. Would go back.

Wow don't bother odering lunch takeout...$20 for a half full container and 3 pieces of beef. What a rip off.

Update (1/21/25) I came here a 2nd time and it still did not disappoint. My favourite activity here is to still use the sauce from the mussels for absolutely everything. I have also added more photos from my 2nd visit.

First Visit to this specific location (around September-October 2025)
I visited here with the knowledge of tasting the Banana Leaf in Kitsilano and visited here in a time where there weren’t too many people at noon. Both places are very similar in taste and I rate them both fairly equally (both taste really good) but this place has a better atmosphere and better tasting deserts.

As for a general perspective, this place serves amazing Malaysian cuisine with really bold flavours.

I took my family to this Oak Street location and had a wonderful experience. Our server, Ella, truly made our evening. Since it was Tuesday, we were able to get a bottle of wine at half price, otherwise we almost would have ordered two glasses for nearly the same price.

Ella checked on us throughout the meal with warm smile. The service was excellent, and the food was just as impressive. We ordered the Kung Pao chicken, pineapple fried rice, satay, mussels, and laksa. Ella even topped up our soup, which we really appreciated.

And I can't forget dessert, mango sticky rice and pandan dessert. We absolutely loved the pandan one.

We'll definitely be coming back.

I love Banana Leaf. Hadn't been there in years, and they still have the best food. The customer service is very good as well 👍

The beef rendang was so good. Meat was tender and a bowl of rice was needed to mop the sauce, which was so flavourful. Char koay teow and chicken satay were also good.

RACISM 101! I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience pushed me to my limits. I visited this restaurant with three friends to celebrate a birthday, and the customer service we received was extremely rude and unprofessional.

One staff member, a woman with short hair, displayed a consistently dismissive and hostile attitude toward us. When I politely asked if she could take a picture of us for the birthday, she refused outright, without any courtesy or explanation. The tone and behavior were unnecessary and uncomfortable.

What’s disappointing is that we never complained about the food, even though we didn’t enjoy it. Despite that, we were treated poorly, as if we had done something wrong. Disliking food should never be a reason for staff to behave rudely—especially when no complaint was made.

A restaurant should be welcoming and respectful, particularly during celebrations. We left feeling upset and disappointed. I hope management takes customer service more seriously.
