Colleague recommended Bon Cafe and for the most part it was worth the trip. Ordered the large pho with rare beef and beef balls. Came with the usual garnish such as bean sprouts, jalapeños, lime and basil. Broth was pretty good, not the usual clear broth. Also, got the lychee drink which for $7 wasn’t worth it, it’s literally a few canned lychee topped up with some of the syrup.
Was warmly greeted by a young guy, assuming the son. Immediately brought a cup of tea and gave me time to order.
Their coconut slush is the greatest drink I’ve ever had and the food is amazing

Ordered the pho with beef and tendon. It was average tasting but I found the beef too chewy. First time trying this spot and sadly won't be returning.

I eat here 2-4 days a week no joke! I’ve tried alot of vietnamese restaurants in the city and Bon Cafe is my favourites. Ran by a very kind family who put effort into every single meal. The atmosphere isn’t too important when the food is this solid
The menu is quite large so let me guide you through some of my favourites:
Their Phở is really really nice, the broth is very tasty due to them taking no shortcuts with MSG and only using beef bones.
The Lemongrass chicken vermicelli + spring roll is top tier as well, super refreshing on a hot day
The Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang (Cambodian Seafood Gumbo, Soup version) was pleasant. If you are a little adventurous and can eat seafood I would give this a try
The Spicy Huế Beef Soup is my favourite out of all the dishes they have to offer. Extremely flavourful spicy beef based broth with tons of toppings. Worth trying if you’re wanting to try something other than Phở
Update: Just tried the Hủ Tiếu Bò Kho (Beef Stew Noodle Soup) and it has taken the spot as my favourite meal to order at Bon Cafe!! Hearty and warm beef stew perfect for a rainy day

Bun Mam is always good.
But the short ribs sometimes is good, sometimes too dry.
And this restaurant never have good service. I came only for the good Bun Mam. Not expecting anything else.

Sorry but I'm a pho snob and I've been eating it for 41 years (my mom took me to my first bowl of pho at pho hoa in San Jose before it became franchised..i still remember the feeling and taste). The soup here really lacks depth. Once i got it, the soup was murky and I knew I was in trouble. Good broth is usually clear. But I decided to not be judgy and gave it a shot. But they also also brought one slice of lemon. A legit establishment has lime. I also asked for extra noodles I thought they'd bring it in a separate bowl, but they didn't and it was super soggy. The noodles were overcooked as well. The meat portions were large tho, and they had good service. Unfortunately I won't come back here as there are lot of other options. It's too bad it's a real hole in the wall and I was looking forward to it since it's also the namesake of my wife.

Took out #38 and it was really good!
Service was really great and when I asked for recommendation, I got a perfect one. I would definitely come back if given chances
Restaurantji Recommends
The chicken is a good portion. Could be marinated a bit more or with more lemongrass. Otherwise my first experience here is good. As this restaurant is small the WC was the place where they placed 2 ladders. A bit of a hazard. The waitress was nice and kind as I initially ordered the wedding thing she was willing to correct.
I ordered a chicken Banh mi and it was done quickly and it tasted amazing! Great fresh toasted bun, great mayo, great pickled daikon and super juicy flavourful chicken.
I truly recommend this place to anyone nearby!
Have driven by Bon Cafe a million times, first visit was on a Saturday evening. Service was fine but we were never offered any tea refills. Dishes are in the $17.00 to $24.50 range.
- Hu tiu nam vang ($19.75) - dry version. Prawns and squid were good, liver was dry. Plenty of noodles. Side soup helped soften everything up
- Pho sa-te ga cong ($20.75) - broth was decent, on the sweeter side. More coconut milk than peanut flavour. Chicken slices were okay
We have come here for years and loved the food and friendly service.
Homey and warm.
Best Vietnamese in town! The spring rolls go insane! Excellent vegetarian options the lemongrass tofu is delicious! Lovely owners and authentic atmosphere
