First time at their new location on Alma since Bon Ton's closure on West Broadway. Space was bright; modern decor mixed with nostalgic wall hangings. Smaller than their old location with a pared down selection of baked goods and pastries. Was happy to see their iconic Diplomat Cake still available, albeit their prices have increased greatly. The cake did taste how we remembered - flaky pastry, rum-infused moist sponge cake, smooth buttercream, and a powdered sugar finish. The chocolate éclairs had the familiar French custard, but we were disappointed to open the box to one of the eclairs looking less than desirable (not from transport, but due to how the chocolate was set on the dough - it ended up having less custard as well).
Was also disappointed that their Pain de Mecque was not on display, and one has to preorder these. They do not accept credit, only cash or debit. Would stop by if in the area or getting treats for a special occasion.
Crazy expensive, not worth it.
Recently purchased some Philippine Pastries, for my mother, who is a longtime customer, these were not up to standard, she said they were not made with butter, maybe margarine or lard, and the pink on top was not the same as it used to be

Everything is very expensive now. I visit for the nostalgia, childhood memories, but can't justify the cost.

First time visiting the new location and have been thinking about the diplomat cake.
They were sold out of the small size but even if they had had one I wouldn’t have purchased it for $49. I know everything is more expensive these days but…
I was surprised to see the offerings of pastries and cookies are much fewer and the cake cabinet is much smaller than at the old location.
Decor/atmosphere is now very sterile.
There were no customers in the shop and it sure didn’t feel like the old Bon Tonne I remember.

For over two decades, Bon Ton Bakery was like a cherished family heirloom, consistently bringing joy and delight to our gatherings. However, during my recent visit to their new location in Vancouver on Alma Street, it felt like discovering that the once-treasured family recipe had been replaced with a pale shadow of its former self.
The cakes, which used to be moist and flavorful, were now as dry as the pages of an old book. The tarts could have doubled as coasters, and the buttercream, once rich, authentic and buttery, tasted artificial, off-putting and little butter if any. It seemed as if the cakes had been sitting on the shelf for far too long, losing all their charm and freshness.
It's concerning to see the prices rise by 50% while the quality has taken such a noticeable plunge. It feels like a magician's trick—flashy on the outside but hollow at its core. Trust is built on consistency and quality, and unfortunately, Bon Ton Bakery seems to have lost sight of this balance. It's disheartening, and I hope they find their way back to the essence that made them a beloved part of our family tradition. Until then, I’ll be taking my sweet tooth elsewhere.

Hard to have a phone call with this store, and once you got someone to answer, they sound annoyed. Didn’t get a friendly vibe, which was a disappointment. I ended up buying a cake from another bakery who was more informative and easy to order with.
Wish they update their social media/website if they want to announce that they’re not accepting orders and going to be first come first serve when picking up cakes.
But not gonna lie, I remembered their Diplomat cakes tasted awesome, but I had that few years ago…

The Diplomat cake did not live up to my expectations. There was too much cream icing, overall, and the pastry layers were dry and flavourless. The spongy middle cake layer was too thin and lacked rum flavour intensity and moistness. This lack of contrast made the cake bland. There are much better cakes for the premium price point.

I ordered a Chocolate Vienna Cake on Saturday to be picked up today (Tuesday) for my Adult son's birthday. We have enjoyed this cake many times from the Broadway location. I have to say I was disappointed in the quality. The icing was delicious and as remembered but the cake itself was dry and unappealing. I know it was typically a somewhat dense sponge but I do not recall it being dry. Very disappointing.
The chocolate dobo tasted good. But the pastry was not fresh, tasting like hard paper, assuming few people ordered that. The two pieces costed $11.30.

We have always liked Bon Ton for it's authentic buttercream pastries and cakes. This is a new location after over 1 year from their last closed location and I'm not sure if our taste buds have changed but the pastries seemed dry. We also had the diplomat cake and it was alright. The prices have gone up 50% from the old location but it's in line with other similar bakeries.

We were so excited to see the Bon Ton reopen but unfortunately the cakes fall short of the original fondly remembered back in the 60's and 70's. Cake and pastry were excellent but icing was disappointing - just like any other cakes from grocery store. Sweet and creamy and no flavor. It used to be so rich and buttery and what a treat! I won't be back especially seeing the outrageous prices.
Flew in from Toronto to pick up some of my favorite Petit fors
The three sisters are my favorite but they were not ready
I was told to come back in 30 mins and they would put a rush on them
I wasn’t disappointed
Thanks for making my trip better!
The best French cakes and pastries.
Went to pick up a cake. Clerk put it in a box and gave it to me. When I was given the machine to pay, the machine asked for a tip. Minimum was 15%. There was no service unless you call putting it in a box service. It has always been expensive, but asking for a tip when no service has been provided is too much !
