I ordered the halibut risotto and it was very tasty. The scallops were done just right - tender and soft. The halibut is a tad overcooked but the sauce makes up for it.We both ordered the combo menu and were happy with the portion and the quality of service. The restaurant went from quiet at 5:30 to nearly full in 30 minutes. So it is recommended to make a reservation on the weekend.

This place was recommended to me by a friend and I wanted to taste authentic French food. Gave it a try despite hearing other friends say that since the place has changed hands (new ownership) the food and service has gone downhill.Walking in, we were greeted in French ? Reservation noted and offered a selection of three 2-seater tables. When asked if we could sit at a larger table so I could work and eat, I was declined by a lack of my acknowledgement of the request. The waiter reiterated my options. None of them ideal we chose the lesser of evils which was a seat in the back where we’d have less initial traffic. The tables are so cramped together that you cannot get a wheel chair through and I myself (as an average weight and fitness person) couldn’t walk through without a leg or hip bumping into a table or chair. We were offered a barely legible chalk board with their daily specials. I had to ask the waiter (who never introduced himself/no name tag) what it said to see what was written (the other boards were better written - so we were provided the worst one). The regular menu was about as desolate as the restaurant (we were the only ones sitting in it at the time of our reservation). We ordered our food and wine (wine was good). My party mate liked the mussels and was glad that those hadn’t changed. He confirmed though that the steak (and tried it for myself), was not on expectations and completely changed (for the worse). It tasted like a charcoal brick with little to no flavor. He ate it as he doesn’t believe in wasting food even if bad - but it needed to be sent back to the kitchen. It was so flavorless. ?My arctic cod was actually quite good - but outside the wine, this was the only thing that was tasty. My party-mate wished they had ordered this instead as it was good. This item wasn’t on the menu last time he had visited so was happy to see something of decent taste on the menu. The cream of corn was palatable but wasn’t worth the price or inclusion to this meal. Yuck ? Bland, tasteless. Cream of Corn in a can from the super market has more taste than this. Wouldn’t recommend. Save your $10CAD.I did like the wall atmosphere but the table situation was a huge turnoff. The wait staff wasn’t as attentive as I’m used to at a sit down restaurant. Overall, my bill was about $70-75CAD for my lunch meal + tip, not worth it at all.Seems word of mouth was true on this place - it has gone downhill since the ownership change and is not what it used to be - flavorless food that’s over priced. Save your money and go elsewhere! ?Parking: There is some street parking (get there before lunch rush to snag a spot - 4hr max), and there is also a paid garage across the street from the restaurant.Wheelchair accessibility: This restaurant is not wheel chair accessible. It’s a safety incident waiting to happen. They pack the tables too tightly for this to be possible. You can barely walk between tables as an average sized person without hitting your hips on a chair or table. It’s unsafe.

We went for Saturday nite dinner as a special treat. All the dishes are done well and plated beautifully. We had duck confit, steak with fois gris and halibut with scallops. The service is good, attentive but not overbearing. Excellent overall.

Date night. At 6:30 on a Thursday the restaurant was very quiet. So, service was attentive, and the food arrived very quickly. Menu is a bit limited but if exceptional quality. Wine list is adequate and reasonably priced. Parking was no problem. Will be back for sure.

I have been to Salade de Fruits three times since there has been new ownership and I am really glad to say that the quality of food and service is as good as always. I order the steak frites every time and they have been delicious on each occasion. It is also a pleasure to speak French with two of the servers.

We used to eat at this restaurant fairly frequently. The food was good and the service simple but good (exactly what one would expect at a cafe in Paris, for example). We decided to go there for Valentine's this year and it was one of the worst meals we've ever had. Note that we were there early so the restaurant wasn't busy at all. Less than 1/3 full. The service was awful. Our server knew nothing about food or wine. We had to ask for cutlery several times and eventually grabbed it off of the next table. We had to ask twice about our drinks. We probably would have been able to overlook the poor service had the food been good. We had duck and steak. The duck was pretty good albeit small. The steak was completely charred on one side so all you taste is burnt meat. We loved their french fries in the past but that wasn't being served which was too bad. All in all, it was an extremely disappointing experience. I would not recommend this restaurant nor will we go back.

?? Evening Elegance at Café Salade de Fruits: From Daylight Delights to Nighttime Indulgence! ?✨? Our recent visit to Café Salade de Fruits marked a delightful departure from our usual routine. Known to us as a daytime haven for delicious pasta, this was our first venture into their evening offerings, and what an enchanting experience it turned out to be! ?? We were lucky to get a last-minute reservation and were pleasantly surprised by the ample and comfortable space provided on their patio, ideal for our group of four adults and two kids. The patio's warmth and coziness, enhanced by just-right heating, made our evening dining under the stars exceptionally pleasant. ?? Café Salade de Fruits always feels like a home away from home, thanks to its family-style atmosphere and the owners' heartwarming hospitality. Their welcoming nature shone just as brightly at night as it does during the day. ??️ The dinner menu tantalized our taste buds with a variety of exquisite French dishes. The Mussel and Fries were delectably savory, and the Daily Fish, an Arctic Char on this occasion, was a masterpiece of flavors. We indulged in the Mushroom Ravioli Pasta with Truffle Cream Sauce, which was a creamy delight, and the Chicken Cordon Bleu, a perfectly executed classic. Accompanying our meal, the house white wine was a delightful pairing, enhancing the overall dining experience. ??? This nighttime visit to Café Salade de Fruits was a revelation, showcasing the versatility and charm of this beloved bistro. It's a reminder of the joys of exploring familiar places in a new light. ?????

it was an amazing experience but the staff took a little loo long to take the order(the restaurant was packed), other than that the place was amazing and i would recommend it every day

This is a staple casual French restaurant in Vancouver. No fuss, but tasty authentic French cuisine. It's been around for decades but the last year or so has changed ownership. I had gone twice after the change in ownership and had great experiences. One was take out and the other was dine-in. My dining experience last Saturday was really disappointing. The Service was terrible. It seemed like there was only one mature female server and one male buser. It has been a long time since I have had bad service so I was pretty shocked at how basic service industry standards were missed. We had to ask for waters as no one filled our glass upon arrival (we had to ask AFTER ordering our meals), typically they provide you with the black board menu to view-we ended up finding one and took a photo of it on our phone. Refills on water took a long time, waiting to get our order in took a long time. We never received a check in to ask how our food was. Our server seemed totally out of it as she didn't remember what we had ordered when it was time to grab the bill...and then claimed she hadn't taken our orders....but she did. So service alone was so bad! She wasn't rude at least...more incompetent. I wish our buser was our server. The food-escargot was amazing. Never disappointed. Flavor was perfect-I just dipped our bread in that glorious butter garlic sauce. The ribeye steak was delicious. What I was looking forward to the most were their famous crispy fries...my partner had never been before and asked our server if the fries were crispy and she said “yes” and from past experiences-they've always been. So I was really disappointed by how white/pale (versus that nice golden color) the fries were. If they had done a check-in I would have said something. But the service was non existent. I was really disappointed because this spot was one of my safe spots for always being satisfied with my meal. But based on my recent experience, I will likely take a long break before returning.
