Food was alright, waffles and syrup were way too sweet. My poached eggs were way too raw and the food was meh at best. Additionally, we were a group of 5 and the menu said “service charge added for groups over 5”. When we got the bill, I saw there’s a service charge so I asked about it to which I got a rude response and the server trying to gaslight me saying that the menu says “charged for groups of 5 or more”. I told her no it says “over 5” (and she didn’t respond knowing that I was correct). She rudely walked away while I was talking and came back with the machine, refusing to remove the service charge AND handing us the machine open to the tip option. Safe to say none of us will come back here, and it’s a shame because it’s in a nice area and good atmosphere, but that was really disappointing.

The restaurant closes at 4pm. I called in before and the staff said the kitchen closes at 3:30pm. We were there at 3pm. The waitress came our table at 3:06 and said we had 15mins. She reminded us twice. She came back 6 mins later at 3:10 pm with a stressed and pinched expression. As a dark skinned dark haired women I wondered how she would treat other customers in the same situation. A caucasian couple walked in after us and she was notably friendlier.

Cozy cafe in a gorgeous location; however, if you have a physical disability/use an assistive device, know that this place has very limited accessibility (entrance, location). Also, inside there is a step yo get down to the washroom: I did not see this step and fell. It was a fellow patron who came to help me up. (No notice from the staff...).
The food here is edible and reasonably priced but the questionable service precludes me from returning...

I really wanted to like this place, but I didn't have a good experience. I dined alone here on Canada Day, looking forward to grabbing lunch and reading a book with my dog on a patio. I ordered lunch, a drink and a dessert. The food was mediocre. The worst part was that the chicken in the club sandwich tasted way off, like it had been sitting in the heat and had spoiled. At the same time, my server was brusque and unfriendly (and super friendly to other tables). She only said something to me when I was paying the cheque.

Cute place with decent food at a great cost. I do have to mention that the service is great, except for one female server who just does not have good customer service skills. She comes off rude and annoyed at any questions or when asked to bring something. Sad to see that, because it really ruins the experience. It happened at two different occasions, so it wasn’t just a bad day..

We came here on this past Tuesday for brunch. It was insanely tasty we loved every bite. They seemed understaffed service wise but they also had very few guests when we were there.
Our server gave us less than bare minimum service and didn’t seem to want to be there. We waited over 10 min for a drink order and we were never checked on after getting food. I had to get up to ask for bills and anything else we needed. We still had a good experience with the food! Kitchen staff seemed to be much friendlier.
This is a hidden gem! The portions are perfectly balanced, I had the classic with bacon and was blown away! This replaced Nelly’s for me…RIP

Dropped in recently on a sunny mid-morning and got a seat on the sidewalk patio. The location is fabulous!
I have been stopping in at Cafe Zen for several years now and always enjoyed the service and food.
We had the Eggs Benny, and the '2 eggs any style'. It was good!
It took a bit of time to get Service, and once Service began it was good.
Will recommend to the Owners to re-set the leveling of the Sidewalk patio, because if seated on the 'downhill side', it is a 'downhill slope' for sure!
All in all a really good experience.
