Been coming here for years and in a world that changes so quickly isn’t it great when there is a place that is rock solid and never really changes.
Looking for a wonderful meal in a traditional cafe. This is the place, the staff are fantastic and Claire is just exquisite, fast efficient and kind to everyone. An unsolicited review 👌❤️

We’ve been loyal customers for over five years, and this friendly little restaurant has never let us down. The food, service, and atmosphere are consistently excellent. Even though it’s not close to home, we always find an excuse to come back—and we love bringing visiting friends here. One of our favourite spots.

Beginning in the late 90's, this was my go-to spot for many years while growing up in Vancouver. The best egg bennies in town imo.

Moved out to the valley years ago (housing/growing family), so hadn't been back in 8 years. I was happy to see they survived COVID and were still there in Kits. Happened to be in the area so stopped in. Well... it's not what it used to be.

They no longer allow benny combinations. It was a major selling point for me. I'd always get a benji-mushroom and chorizo. Having to pick one or the other turned me off. And honestly the price turned me off too. $27 including tax and tip for two of the same bennies and hashbrowns was too rich for my blood.

I settled for the reasonably priced early bird special ($11.50 + tax). It consisted of two eggs, choice of two sausages, bacon, or ham, hashbrowns, and toast.

I order my eggs over easy (runny yolk for dipping... yum), and they were overcooked. Slightly burnt rubbery whites and the yolks had mostly hardened. The chunky hashbrowns I adored for their crispy outsides, and fluffy insides were also burnt. So much so that the insides were crunchy too. Went with sausage which was dried out and tasted freezer burnt.

Needless to say, I left very disappointed. I used to refer people to this spot for years. Will no longer be doing that and won't be returning.

I've been eating at The Cafe zen for over 15 years and have gave them lots of business! Today on New Years day my Benji Mushroon was over cooked and the eggs were like hockey pucks, only got 1 piece of bacon and my kids Waffle was cold and had no syrup. They actually put hot sauce on her Waffle instead of the syrup she would normally receive. I will never order from Cafe Zen again! Happy New Years to us, Blah!

Food reasonable. Nothing special but not very high price so fine. Staff, particularly lady greeting us at the door awful. Really made us feel unwelcome & was quite abrasive. Think some people just not suited to being in service industry. Acted like we were a huge inconvenience. Don't plan on returning.

Service was fast and friendly but also chill. Food was hot and yummy. I had the bacon and eggs and my sister had the BELTCH sandwich. We were there on a Monday afternoon so the atmosphere was cozy and quiet. If you're in the area and looking for a relaxed meal, stop by.

good breakfast. the early morning special is a decent deal. the coffee is a bit overpriced for what it is ($7 for an okay latte). the older lady server is incredibly rude, she was not attentive, had quite the attitude, and basically ignored us besides when we finally flagged her down to pay, no quality check, no water refills, didn’t even look in our direction. place was not busy either. the younger girls were very sweet but the older server really put a bad taste in our mouths. would return but not while she’s working.

The service here is genuinely great everyone was kind and attentive, and I appreciate that. However, I have to be honest about the food. I ordered a burrito this time and previously tried the huevos rancheros, and in both dishes the beans had an overwhelming cumin taste. It completely changed the flavor profile and took away from the experience of trying to enjoy a Mexican dish. Instead of traditional Mexican flavors, the heavy use of cumin made everything taste more like Indian-inspired seasoning.

I really hope they can adjust the recipe, because the service is excellent and the place has potential, but the beans are affecting the overall experience😞 stop adding cumin to Mexican dishes please. In Mexico is not a comin flavor at all.

Food was alright, waffles and syrup were way too sweet. My poached eggs were way too raw and the food was meh at best. Additionally, we were a group of 5 and the menu said “service charge added for groups over 5”. When we got the bill, I saw there’s a service charge so I asked about it to which I got a rude response and the server trying to gaslight me saying that the menu says “charged for groups of 5 or more”. I told her no it says “over 5” (and she didn’t respond knowing that I was correct). She rudely walked away while I was talking and came back with the machine, refusing to remove the service charge AND handing us the machine open to the tip option.
Safe to say none of us will come back here, and it’s a shame because it’s in a nice area and good atmosphere, but that was really disappointing.

The restaurant closes at 4pm. I called in before and the staff said the kitchen closes at 3:30pm. We were there at 3pm. The waitress came our table at 3:06 and said we had 15mins. She reminded us twice. She came back 6 mins later at 3:10 pm with a stressed and pinched expression. As a dark skinned dark haired women I wondered how she would treat other customers in the same situation. A caucasian couple walked in after us and she was notably friendlier.

Cozy cafe in a gorgeous location;
however, if you have a physical disability/use an assistive device, know that this place has very limited accessibility (entrance, location). Also, inside there is a step yo get down to the washroom: I did not see this step and fell. It was a fellow patron who came to help me up. (No notice from the staff...).

The food here is edible and reasonably priced but the questionable service precludes me from returning...

Came for Sunday brunch. The Mediterranean crepes were to die for. They are must try. Great service and atmosphere. They were busy but we didn’t have to wait for a table.
