I am really mixed in how to rate the food. Appies were very good, especially the scallops. However the meal itself was very disappointing. The Cornish Hen, which I suspect was really chicken since it was quite a bit larger, was almost raw in the middle. Trout was overcooked. All the dishes that were served to us didn't come with much food. My pics show this and before you start wondering what I'm talking about, be aware that these dishes were for 5 people to share. A couple of us left hungry.
Service was extremely poor. When they brought the food they neglected to provide serving spoons or tongs; we had to ask for some. Also, they kept trying to clean up our drink glasses before the drinks were even finished. I guess it's a way to boost bar sales.
Dessert was good.
As for atmosphere, the place was pleasant enough, nicely decorated.

I visited this restaurant on November 10, 2025 at 8 AM, hoping to have a solid breakfast before attending a congress at the convention center. I ordered an avocado toast and a flat white. After I arrived, about ten more couples came in and placed their orders. I ended up waiting around 45 minutes for my avocado toast. When I asked the waitress about my order, she said the kitchen was very busy. I would have understood if they had simply said they forgot my order, but customers who arrived at least 10 minutes after me were already eating while I was still waiting hungry. In the end, I waited 45 minutes and never received my breakfast.
If you’re visiting Vancouver for a short trip and want to waste an hour waiting while hungry, this is the place to go.

Came to Carlino for my birthday and everything was amazing—from the service to the food. Our server was incredibly kind and even let me taste-test two different wines so I could compare the flavors, which I really appreciated. The dishes were fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor.
The decor inside is absolutely stunning—elegant, cozy, and perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a date night, celebration, or just a nice dinner out.
And the sweetest part? They surprised me with a tiramisu on the house for my birthday! Such a thoughtful gesture and the perfect way to end the night. ☺️☺️

After numerous visits to Vancouver BC, at long last, a chance encounter to Carlino was a delectable feast.
A reservation was secured, for another establishment, based on a concierge recommendation, that proved NOT to -exist-. Curious. Quickly, a taxi was redirected to Albernini Street, the known location of this (then) nameless establishment.
The folly of “knowing” a place; not recording its name, address. The folly of THIS diner.
Without a reservation, on a Friday evening, the lounge was available, and seating was prompt.
The food.
The food is WHY you should include Carlino in your visit. Simple AND elegant. More importantly, bursting with flavor, hearty portions.
A small regret of this diner is that after a salad and pasta course, there was no possibility of continuing on to dessert!
The Ceasear Salad arrived with several slices of what appeared to be prosciutto, however, the knowledgeable server corrected that it was “speck” (sp?) a variation. Delicious and HIGHLY recommended!!
The “simple” rigatoni in a meat sauce was an unexpected delight. Right and hearty and again full of flavor was a meal in and of itself.
There are other offerings on the menu to consider in future visits. DO ask what the “special” might be and consider it.
Dine, enjoy, and if the stairs seem daunting (or an accessibility challenge), there are elevators available.

A true Italian gem in Vancouver! Coming from a full Italian background, my family and I absolutely love Carlino's! Food is 10/10, staff is 10/10, and we always have such a good experience here! Sarah is a wonderful server, she always has us leaving with a smile on our face. Marisa was also wonderful to work with when I was planning my birthday celebration at Carlino's in the summer. She even sent a follow up email asking how our dinner was for my birthday! We always have an outstanding experience at Carlino's. 100% would recommend!
