Huge portion size, decent taste, and fully vegan! I feel like one dish could be share with two people due to how big it’s. The atmosphere and inside was quite unique, rustic kinda vibe. The staff was friendly and attentive.

We’ve been coming to Chickpea for a while, and my kids genuinely love it. In the past, we’ve enjoyed the food as well. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was very disappointing.
It appeared that one staff member was handling everything — greeting, serving, billing, cleaning tables, making drinks — while another person (possibly management) was present but not assisting. The staff member was clearly overwhelmed.
There were order mix-ups with my kids’ meals, no ketchup served with fries, and our take-out order came without utensils or napkins. Because we were short on time, I ordered a salad with deep-fried oyster mushrooms to go, based on the staff recommendation.
When I opened it later, it was honestly one of the worst take-out salads I’ve received. The mushrooms were placed steaming hot directly onto mixed greens, which wilted and ā€œcookedā€ the salad. The dressing was poured directly over everything instead of being served on the side, making it soggy. There were large amounts of onions (which I don’t eat), and the mushrooms were extremely oily and unseasoned. The entire dish felt rushed and poorly assembled.
After finishing it, I genuinely felt nauseous. I cannot recommend that oyster mushroom salad at all.
When you’re spending over $100 for a family vegan meal, you expect thoughtful preparation and proper service. Something has shifted in quality over our last few visits, and sadly this experience confirmed that decline.
I hope management addresses both staffing and food consistency. We used to really enjoy coming here.

The service and the food quality had declined.
I am a good cook and I don’t eat out often, but

I really used to love this place but I don't know what's going on with it. The first few times I went a few years ago I was blown away, I could not believe vegan food could ever taste that good and how much diverse you could get with the flavor. Over the last few years however I have had some really varying experiences there including a few times where the food was just not good at all and did not even taste fresh. It really seems to depend on who is working there at the time, but unfortunately it is too much of a gamble for me to plan a nice night out there if I am trying to show someone a good time. If you do decide to go I hope that you will get them at their best because it really can be an amazing and unique cuisine.

Yesterday was my second time at Chickpea, and I have to say they offer a wide variety of options for any time of the day.

On both visits, Laura was my server, and she has been a big part of why I’ve enjoyed this place so much. Her service was incredible, and I always feel very well taken care of every time I come here.

The restaurant’s decor is also beautiful and has very ā€œChickpea vibes.ā€

Thank you, Chickpea!

This was a very disappointing Valentine’s Day experience at Chickpea.

We were really excited to try the Hafla all-you-can-eat options for Valentine’s day, and planned our day around it, eating lighter than normal prior as we were looking forward to enjoying the whole experience. Unfortunately, in one of our first bites of food, we found a large metal spiral piece.

We informed the staff, and they did apologize and told us we would be ā€œtaken care ofā€; however, it was difficult to feel comfortable after that. Obviously we felt concerned about hygiene and quality control, but instead of just walking out we stayed and ate cautiously, but we were a bit turned off the whole time.

Another issue we found was that after replacing the dish with the metal piece in it, no server attended our table for approximately 15 minutes. We were still missing one of our dishes, and they had taken one of our forks and we were waiting to ask for another. After nobody came, I had to go up and ask for a fork, as well as if our last dish was coming.

Near the end of our experience there, we looked through the Vancouver Coastal Health Food Inspection report and found that just two weeks prior, they were not in compliance with the following: ā€œEquipment, utensils and/or food contact surfaces are not maintained/used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handlingā€. Seeing this further reinforced our concerns, as it seems as though they are definitely not using equipment or utensils ensuring safe food handling.

Overall, although the food itself may have been fine, the experience was extremely off-putting, and put a damper on what we had hoped would be a special Valentine’s dinner. Furthermore, the slight discount was definitely not worth the negative experience.

I recently went to this vegan restaurant and overall I had a good experience with the food. I ordered the chick steak and it was absolutely delicious. The flavor, texture, and presentation were excellent. It’s definitely a dish I would order again.

However, I did have an uncomfortable situation with another customer. It was an elderly couple who arrived after I did. During my visit, the gentleman made me feel uncomfortable, and even after finishing his meal and paying his bill, he approached me to make inappropriate comments. I chose to remain calm and respectful throughout the situation, understanding that sometimes older individuals may behave in unexpected or difficult ways. Nevertheless, it was an uncomfortable experience.

Regarding the service, I would like to mention that two staff members were very kind and attentive. Unfortunately, the rest of the team did not seem as welcoming or customer-oriented. There was a noticeable lack of friendliness and willingness to assist.

Overall, the food was excellent, but there is definitely room for improvement in customer service and in handling situations between guests.
