Had a Hainan chicken set today — it came with half a chicken and three portions of chicken oil rice.

The meal started with a bowl of goji berry chicken soup, which was truly comforting and tasted like a warm memory from home.

Unfortunately, when the chicken arrived, I could already see that about 80% of it was quite tough. The rice was mostly chicken oil rice, with a small portion of plain white rice mixed in.

By far the best Hainan chicken rice in Vancouver, believe me I have been searching since we returned to living here after 25 years in HK! City 1 has the chicken poached to perfection and the rice was incredibly flavourful. We did a takeaway so only had interaction with the lady who took the order and she was pleasant and helpful. We are definitely coming back to try other items on their menu. The decor is nothing to rave about but the food is what’s important here! Also ordered the salt & pepper tofu - great taste! Highly, highly recommend if you love Hainan chicken rice! My only teeny, tiny gripe is no ginger paste dipping sauce and thick soy sauce but the green onion and red chili sauce are included.

My friend recommended as her mom frequents this hidden gem. The beef curry was very tender, enough for one person. Authentic tasting although I've not been to Singapore or Malaysia. Hainan chicken is their other popular dish. Perfectly done
, tasty rice and chicken broth soup is yummy. Will have to come try other dishes. Everything is expensive out there expect to pay$20 before taxes and tip per person.

I was ordering a takeaway for my Hainanese Chicken. After I placed my order, I stood at the counter for a moment and the woman at the counter told me to wait outside the restaurant when the place was half empty. And she was so sarcastic with her tone of speech tbh she was getting on my last nerve. The chicken is pretty nice but don’t expect good service.

I had the hainamese chicken set for $15. It came with bowl of soup, 8 pcs of boneless chicken ( very thin)though, and a bowl of yellow rice. The soup was pretty good, the chicken was pretty tasty but very small. There was only one waitress, and she got unclean tables all over. I walked in around 1:30.

The chicken was tasty but it could have looked better. I would be happy to come and eat the upgraded chicken!

I came all the way here just for the boneless chicken, but after ordering a single boneless chicken with one bowl of rice, the waitress told me they were sold out of the single portion (a quarter chicken) and insisted that I order a half chicken with three bowls of rice—just for myself.

I told her I couldn’t eat that much rice, so she offered me a half chicken with only one bowl of rice at the same price. It was completely unreasonable, and she didn’t even apologize. The attitude felt like “take it or leave it.”

After traveling 40 minutes to get here, the experience was disappointing. The service was terrible, and I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Little Malaysian food joint in the Safeway stripmall.
Roti was amazing with curry dip.
Our main was curry beef brisket with potatoes, very good.

Loved the hainanese chicken rice, texture was excellent and super yummy! Satay was super flavourful too! Service was amazing as well, really sweet people :)

The restaurant is usually pretty busy and sometimes it may be the case that your party has to sit apart or wait. It is worth it. The restaurant is tidy but not flashy. The service is fine: You can get your order in quickly (food is not out particularly quickly though), get timely tea refills and the servers aren’t rude like some others have said. They’re not overly attentive but if you call for them they’ll be there. The highlight, as it should be, is the food.
Everyone who visits this restaurant gets the Hainan chicken. The portion honestly isn’t the biggest for the price but the chicken and accompanying soup and rice are delicious. But actually though— I’m reaally sure we’re not getting a whole chicken unless they only buy tiny skinny ones. I recommend getting a whole chicken. Hainanese chicken usually comes with three sauces (soy, chili and ginger sauces) but the soy one isn’t served here. The two they do serve are very good though! I also recommend the roti with curry dipping sauce. Always order more than you think— the food holds up well as takeout food.

Very pricey, hainam chicken is not really good as they claimed. Wordtr is that it doesn't come with picky Which is a standard side come with it. Satay is very bad not grilled enough and no taste. Totally not worth the money spent will never come back.

LIKELY RETURN
cash (and debit?) accepted. reservation accepted. ample free parking. clean and organized sitting area. comfortable table spacing. satisfactory customer service. delicious and quality food served. portion is rather small considered the price paid.

Love their Hainan chicken! Wish they have an option to choose between white rice and their Hainan chicken rice when order the chicken.

The chicken still tastes good, but I can’t get over how small the portion is. $28 for half chicken and 3 bowls of rice.
