We had the pleasure of celebrating our anniversary at Cofu Chinatown in Vancouver, and it was an outstanding experience from beginning to end. The entire team exuded genuine warmth and friendliness, with special recognition for the exceptional General Manager, Riku, whose attentive service elevated the evening. Seated at the counter, we were fortunate to watch Master Chef Akiko craft our Omakase—a meticulously prepared 18-course vegan sushi journey. Her refined table manners, precise culinary techniques, and elegant presentations were nothing short of memorable, creating moments we will cherish from that special night. What truly moved us was Chef Akiko's authentic embodiment of the Japanese zero-waste philosophy, which resonated deeply and infused every element of the meal with purpose and respect. Each dish showcased exquisite Japanese craftsmanship, transforming plant-based ingredients into unforgettable works of art. Thank you, Cofu Chinatown, for the warm welcome and the truly delightful evening. We cannot recommend this gem highly enough for anyone seeking refined vegan cuisine in Vancouver.
tasty fusion Japanese for plant based dining! the veggie eel don was surprisingly delicious and comparable to the real eel don! the selection was wide and the atmosphere was very cozy and quiet. must visit for anybody who likes sushi & would like to try plant based diet!
I love this place. Such kind people and delicious food. Very thoughtfully, prepared and presented. Cool vibes and design as well.
We absolutely loved getting to check out COFU Chinatown during Dine Out this year. Not only was the six-course vegan meal exceptional and terrific value for the price, but the servers are just lovely and the restaurant's ambiance is dialed. We can't wait to go again!
My friends and I came in for an early Sunday evening. We each ordered the Dine Out 6-course menu, and I added the sake pairing and Hojichi Martini. The food, service and ambience were all excellent. I deducted one star for service because we felt the server rushed us through each dish and kept asking us repeatedly how our meal was - like every 5 minutes. I respect they were just doing their job, and I should have said something. We were only one of two tables at the start and the place wasn't full when we left 3 hours later (I tipped well). Overall, the food quality surpassed my expectations for plant-based Japanese cuisine. I would go back to try them during the day when they are a cafe.
Cofu offers an exceptional Japanese dining experience for vegans. We first visited during their soft launch and had the omakase, which was absolutely sublime. Every course thoughtfully prepared and full of care and intention. Knowing they were developing their full dining menu, we were excited to return, and finally did last night. It was more than worth the wait. Everything was excellent, but the Unagi Don, the gomae and the handroll really stood out! The experience felt genuinely Japanese, elevated even more by how inclusive it was allowing vegans to enjoy what a traditional Japanese meal can feel like, without compromise. A special place, and one we'll absolutely return to.
What an amazing meal. The Omikase experience was indeed something special. My wife and I travel and eat all over the world and the thoughtful and delicious way Akiko made everything blew us away. To have this in Vancouver is something special and we can't wait to come back for more !!! Great work team. Todd & Molly
Outstanding experience at Cofu Chinatown. The space is incredible, very calming and stylish. Our servers were extremely knowledgeable and made us feel like we were really being taken care of well. The food was delicious, we enjoyed everything we had, special shout out to the two mushroom dishes, they were exquisite. Highly recommend.
The flavours were amazing and something new for us. The service was attentive and they provided great information on how the saki parings complemented the food. Great room ambience; elegant but also relaxed. It is a welcome addition to the neighbourhood and some much needed variety.
We had the omakase menu and it was incredible. We were the only ones at the bar and the chef (owner?) was very pleasant. She described all the food and cooking methods as she prepared the food in front of us and served the different courses. Atmosphere was classy, good house music bumpin' (jazzy/deep); felt more like New York than Vancouver. Food was high quality, with unique dishes and flavours. Fairly high price point, but appropriate for the level of service and quality of food. For big eaters, you may need to order an extra roll or two to feel satiated; it's vegan, so not a lot of protein in this meal. It's kinda like having the Deluxe Shokai frim Miku, but vegan!

Absolutely fantastic experience at COFU Chinatown. The food was incredibly unique and thoughtfully prepared, every dish felt special. Service was excellent from start to finish, attentive without being overbearing. We'll definitely be back
The food was beautiful and had some amazing flavors and presentation. The service was too attentive and it felt like they were pushing you through the experience. Overall courses were very small for the dine out menu and left hungry for an expensive price.
Simply one of the best culinary experiences ever! Make sure you do the Omakase tasting menu. Everything we ate was flavorful, creative, unique and beautifully prepared. Such a treat to go to a vegetarian restaurant with such creative flair and attention to detail . Can't wait to eat here again.
We came to Cofu for my birthday dinner. It was so nice to be able to enjoy creative vegan Japanese food. We did a sake flight each and learned a lot about sake from our amazing server. I ordered the pine box Bento, my husband got the ramen and karaage. Everything tasted great and well balanced.
Good place for gluten free sushi. Portions are a bit smal but delicious. Great chef. Beautiful presentation. Nice for a date of you're watching gluten.
