Went there looking to buy some fatty BBQ pork. They took one out of the display that looked very nice and fatty which was what I wanted. They also asked if I want to get it chopped up, which I said yes. (Their chopping board area is covered up, so you can't see it from the customer side.) By the time I got home and opened up the box, the meat inside the box did not look anything like the piece they showed me at the store. It was all lean and dried up, there was not a drip of sauce in the box. The piece they showed me was dripping with sauce, there's no way on earth the inside of the box could be completely dry and clean looking!!! I'm pretty sure they showed me a nice piece and then switched it out with a bad piece knowing that I can't see what they were chopping since it's all covered up. Thank you for tricking me into buying a bad piece of meat, in return you just lost a customer for good.
This place is one of my favourite Vancouver meat shops since the 70s. Any kid who grew up in an asian family around that time had parents who came here on weekends. It has enormous personal nostalgic memories. The big reason is their meats.
Even though we’re eating healthier these days, if I want something from the past. This is the place I’ll go to. The store is typical for a chinese butcher meat shop. I was impressed by their cleanliness upon a recent visit but regardless I get what they are all about. Not modern or pretentious with ridiculous prices. But old school quality and prices are reasonable.
Flavours are still spot on and the staff are friendly and kind. I miss places like this and will continue to support them! Thank you Dollar Meat Store.
History of legacy store since the 80's as a child.
Sure brings back memories. Freebie piece of bbq pork to taste as a child from the butcher chef.

The entire store STINKS and so does their food! I got two things of chicken and BOTH of them had this weird sandy/gritty texture. The moment you bite into their “free range chicken”, the smell of rotting fat and protein would fill your entire mouth and nose.I could not have been more disappointed in their food, even at a lower price point you’re just wasting your money for shopping for fresh foods here.
A place where you can get cooked, cured, and raw meat, all in one store. It's amazing that this place has been around for more than 50 years.BBQ Duck - There is another version that I remembered them selling. It's sort of a flatted out BBQ version. I don't know if they still have it. However the regular one was quite meaty when compared to some of the other places.Chinese Sausage - I don't know how many other places have this item for consumers to purchase. Something that I grew up as a kid eating.
This place is practically a Chinatown institution! Been coming here since family arrived in the city back in the late 60s and even though I moved abroad in the 80s and only recently returned after an absence of almost 40 years seeing the iconic pig and $ sign makes everything right in the world. Even if it's not...
BBQ pork is too sweet and dry. Would give it a negative star. The quality is poor and tastes like sugar flavored rubber.
Only accepts cash. The roasted pork is not crispy when we asked and requested specifically and they said yes for sure.

This is one of the oldest surviving businesses in Vancouver Chinatown. I can't really think of any other stores in Chinatown that has been around longer than this one…maybe the corner grocery store a few stores up the block. This meat shop has been on the same location for about 5 decades. I love their tasty BBQ ducks and soy chickens. Taste yummy ?. There are street parking available and a few parking garages in Chinatown. Every time when I go to Vancouver Chinatown I would make a stop here to get my BBQ duck. The meat is juicy and flavour is right on. They also have BBQ pork and roasted pork. In addition, the store have fresh meat as well. Dollar Meat Store also sells their own brand of Chinese sausages and flatten dried duck...good for cooking in rice cooker. Smells good. If you ever visit Vancouver Chinatown you can drop by Dollar Meat Store for some BBQ meats.
Love there selection. Staff very friendly and helpful. Their barbecue pork and barbecue sausage is great. Worth a visit.
First time to come this famous Chinese Traditional Sausage and preserved meat store, so disappointed for the services. No prices indicated on meat products, even when asked about it, no staff was willing to tell. The store is is totally not trust worthy. .
