We are from Australia and on our first day in Vancouver came across this restaurant., we have to say that the food was good., but the best was the exceptionally friendly and efficient staff. Great place highly recommend.

We’ve been to Dovetail several times — it’s usually one of the best restaurants in Vancouver, with great food and good people. No clue what happened the other night, but it was completely off.
It started with the wine coming out warm. Not a big deal on its own, but surprising at a place like this. We asked for it to be chilled and tried to move on. First world issues.
Then we ordered the vodka pasta, but it came out wrong twice as mushroom pasta. When we asked to cancel, the male bartender got defensive and aggressive, and after that we sat for about 15 minutes with no service at all. Then someone claiming to be a manager came out and the best part is when we apologize to her, and she started laughing no clue what that was about.
Eventually, Mercedes, the assistant general manager, came by, but by then the night was already a loss. She left her card, which was appreciated, but why bother.
The service was unacceptable — plain and simple. And honestly, nowhere in Vancouver should you have to apologize just to get the basics right. Maybe it was a bad night, but it was by far the worst experience we’ve had in the city in a long time.
Give it another chance maybe pretty good pasta if you get the right dish. Kind of surprising that you are sitting there prepared to pay and feel like a complete and utter inconvenience.

Oh my, where to even start.
We had to wait for a table due to how busy they were. I want to say thanks to our server who can’t remember her name and as well as the hostess lady who took our details to wait on the table. We were here 30/10/25 for about 7:30pm. We were seated just off the bar in the corner looking out to the terrace
This place was delicious, they have great share sizes for meals although you can easily eat a pasta meal yourself. Even though they were really really busy everything came out in a timely manner so props to the chefs on and bartenders. Had good music going and it wasn’t overwhelming that you could still talk to each other or in a group you could still hear each other.
Some seating is quite cramped but it was ok
The drinks they have are also really good and will satisfy that cocktail hour.

Absolutely incredible customer service! Honestly they knocked our socks off. We stumbled in this place for a cocktail and had a wonderful experience! Dee and Malia greeted us with a smile and we’re able to seat us, even though they were insanely busy. We sat at the bar with Tom and Danica and Alex were truly incredible providing us with recommendations for our time in Vancouver. We didn't eat here, but the drinks were great and the friendliness of the staff was amazing! I would give them 10 stars if I could! 🥳🥳

Update review: my boyfriend booked my birthday dinner here for 730 through open table, he was able to get us an earlier reso day of by calling in. The hostess was nice with bringing us to our seats and even wished me a hbd. Things took a bit of a turn when seated, we were greeted by a waitress that took my drink order. Then we were greeted by another waitress that said she was taking over, she took our meal order. Then ANOTHER waitress comes and said she was taking over while we were eating, we mentioned that she was our third waitress of the day. We proceeded to finish our meals and she never came back to take our dishes after her initial greeting, then another waitress comes and handles the bill. I honestly was very confused, so in total we had 4 waitresses. We never even got offered a dessert menu or anything. By the end of it I was highly disappointed choosing this place for my birthday dinner.

Disappointed in that part because I wanted to book a birthday reservation, we live far so can’t depend on a walk in. Other than that I have been here before and the food is good, definitely come try if you can.
Best overall restaurant in Vancouver IMO. • Covered/heated patio ✅ • Southern California Vibe ✅ • great service ✅ • Friendly staff ✅ • unbelievable food ✅ • flexible with individual or share/family style dishes ✅ • awesome drink selection ✅ • entire menu is gluten friendly accept for 2 items 👍 • modifications and waiter recommendations are welcomed ✅ • reasonably priced for the quality and experience at an upper/middle Van restaurant ✅
You will need a reservation if you’re looking to get in 5pm or later on most nights. But they do allow a wait list and are good about getting you in considering how sought after it is.
Ownership and management have done a fantastic job of making this an overall awesome dining and social experience. I’ve become a regular since moving to Vancouver.

My friend and I walked in and were told the wait would be not long since they were cleaning up some tables. So we put down our name on the wait list and we didn’t hear back till 2 hours later. We delayed eating since we wanted to try this place out for the first time. When we get there 2 hours later they sit us at a table by the bar that didn’t even fit us. I’m so disappointed in the hostess and the lie she told us. Now we’re off to an activity that was pre booked without eating the entire day.
