We had an amazing time with my friends at Earls. The host, Sadaf, who guided us inside, did a great job following up to make sure everything was going well. Our server, Laura, was also very nice. Highly recommended!

Brax is a stand up guy. I was having a bad day so I popped into Earl’s for a snack and he turned my bad day completely around. He made me laugh, made sure my coffee was always fresh, even let me use his charger when my phone almost died. Great experience 10/10.

Never in my life have I written a review or had a restaurant experience so bad that I felt the need to write a negative one…until last Monday night at Earls Test Kitchen :(

Once our server, Laura, came up to us we all got the vibe that she was in a bad mood to begin with... but despite her energy we stayed super polite! Laura ID’d my friends, but I only had my school photo ID and mini–BIRTH CERTIFICATE. She didn’t accept it, so I didn’t get my espresso martini, which is fair. Tbh, I respect her for following the liquor laws so strictly, and I expected it because it’s a major Earls location.

After taking our food and drink orders, a male server comes up to us and says, “Laura’s shift is ending soon so I’m going to be your server,” which was weird because she had already taken our orders and was still getting seated. Anyways, our new male server asked if we wanted to order anything else, and this was definitely a low move on my end, but I took a shot at asking for an Espresso Martini and apologized if my IDs weren’t sufficient (they worked there before). He said no worries at all and rung it in for me!

Laura must’ve picked up on the fact that I had tried a 2nd time and was successful, so she stormed to the male server and ofc said something to him about it. Fiona ended up coming to us and explained that they couldn’t give it to me because of liquor laws etc., I totally get it, but it was worth a shot and kinda funny that the male server said yes to it.

Our food came, and it was great, but not a single person checked in on us that entire night. My friends even wanted more drinks, but our server was never near us (I’m convinced it wasn’t even his section). It was pretty obvious that Laura was purposely not making eye-contact with our table when she walked by, and only checked in on the ones directly beside us… My friends and I just kept laughing at the whole thing, our night wasn’t ruined but it seemed like Lauras was.

It felt like the male server took over our table because Laura just couldn’t handle us even though we didn’t say anything? we genuinely could not figure out for the life of us what we did to upset Laura so bad to the point where her, the male manager, and Fiona refused to check in on us. If it was the Espresso Martini thing, yikes.

It is the absolute worst to deal with mean, nitpicky guests but my friends and were nothing but patient. I do admit it was a low move on my end to ask for that Espresso martini, but I know Laura will survive. It sucks choosing this place out of all of Vancouver, just for us to be purposely neglected the ENTIRE time like the 2 servers and manager had some kind of planned vendetta against us LOL.

Once we settled (and still tipped when we shouldn’t have), I respectfully explained the whole thing to Fiona and apologized if we upset Laura and for the Espresso Martini thing. Fiona was super nice when she sat us, but I could tell she was pissed that I even brought this up. She said “oh, we’re short staff” and “I’m so sorry YOU feel that way,” whilst disregarding pretty much everything I was saying. It felt like talking to a brick wall.

In a city with endless dining options, it’s too bad our experience at Earls Test Kitchen was memorable for all the wrong reasons #GFL

My group came the exact time as our reservation, didn’t get seated until 15 minutes after, and our waitress, Laura, didn’t come to serve us until 15 minutes after that. Laura was not very pleasant, even though we made no fuss over waiting so long and then got switched out for another waiter after taking our orders because her “shift was ending”. However we saw her continuing to check on and serve all tables around us. Our new waiter never came to check on us once, Laura would ask every other table how they were doing but intentionally skip ours, even though we wanted to order another drink. After we finished dinner (Laura was still working), we talked to the manager and essentially was told “sorry we feel that way” and our waitress was switched because they were “short-staffed”. Next time they should at least make their lies consistent. Food was good. Service was terrible.

Nice place!!! The ribs are delicious and I recommend ordering the toffee cake for dessert. Our server, Valentina, was very attentive and polite.

We went to Earl's Hornby St, Vancouver, for my birthday on December 20th. I go to Earl's frequently, and love many of their classic, long standing main courses, of which our party ordered some of. Upon seating us, we were told by the hostess that we had to be cleared out within 2- hours, as there was a reservation right behind us (this part wasn't a huge deal). The service /server we had was outstanding, friendly and timely, however, there were five people in our party and all the main dishes came out cold (oddly, the flavor profiles were great, but not so much with cold food) 😕. The manager came quickly upon being advised of this, and offered to replace all the meals, but we had reservations somewhere else afterwards, and we were hungry, so we ate at least part of what was on our plates. He did take four of the five meals off our bill. This was a shame, because our server was excellent and the atmosphere is fine (although I do think over the past few years they seem to pack people in there like sardines, as the booth we were in was designed to comfortably fit three regular size adults, but there were five of us in the same booth that everyone else seemed to have three). I'll still stick with Earl's overall, as this is the first disappointing food experience I've had with any Earl's in the approximately 30-years I started going to them (Earl's Tin Palace, Edmonton, Alberta, was iconic from my late teens to mid adulthood). I have been to this location many times, but not since COVID, so we shall see what happens next time.
