A lovely friend of mine brought me here for the first time yesterday, and I was thoroughly enchanted. A delightfully cozy, eccentric cafe with a delectable atmosphere. Cannot wait to come back again!!

East Café on Hastings is, without question, the best café in all of Vancouver. Every visit feels like coming home. The coffee alone is reason enough to stop by—it’s consistently exceptional: smooth, rich, and full-bodied with none of the bitterness that lesser roasts carry. Whether you prefer a classic espresso, a velvety latte, or something more adventurous, every cup tastes freshly crafted with care and precision. You can tell they take pride in their beans and technique.
But what really sets East Café apart isn’t just the coffee—it’s the people. The service is always warm, friendly, and unpretentious. The staff remember faces, take time to chat, and genuinely make you feel welcome without ever being overbearing. It’s rare to find that kind of consistency, where hospitality feels real and not rehearsed.
Their food and snacks match the same level of quality. Everything is fresh, simple, and done right—perfect pairings for your drink, whether you’re craving something light or a little indulgent. You can taste that everything is made with care, not just convenience.
The atmosphere seals the deal. It’s chill, unhurried, and effortlessly comfortable. Whether you’re sitting with a laptop, reading a book, or catching up with a friend, it’s a space that encourages you to slow down and actually enjoy being there. The design feels lived-in and authentic, not trendy for the sake of it.
For me, East Café is a ritual. Every time I’m in Vancouver, it’s a guaranteed stop. The coffee, the people, the energy—it all adds up to something special. It’s not just another café; it’s the kind of place that quietly earns loyalty by being excellent in all the small, important ways that matter most. Simply put, best coffee in the city—hands down.

Best Americano I had in years! Lovely vibe and rustic elements at the shop made me feel as though I was in a movie set back in the 70s. Lovely experience

East Cafe is more than just a coffee shop. They have clearly gone out their way to be part of our Hastings Sunrise community. Their book clubs and open mic have become so successful and brought so many of the community members together. I have yet to become a member, but I have seen the club in many mornings and it is easy to see that they deeply care for each other and East Cafe. I am so glad this cafe exists in my neighbourhood. Their matcha is absolutely the best in town as well.

Incredibly cozy and unique cafe!
It feels very homey (literally has furniture and decorations you’d find in a rustic home) and inviting. They have plenty of great coffee and pastry options, and their staff are welcoming. The seating is fairly limited, but I was told they’ll be opening the second floor soon!
This cafe truly makes you want to sit and stay rather than grab and go. Definitely worth a visit!
