The northern-style dishes here taste pretty good. If you're in the mood for a lamb hot pot, it's worth a try. The restaurant isn't very spacious, but overall, it feels decent.
I have been here a lot over the past 2 years - and I'd say on average this is a 4.5/5 star experience.
This place does get pretty busy during dinner hours - you might want to try and call ahead to book a table - or you will encounter some waiting.
Tables are on the tighter end of the spectrum - so noise can become a issue -
Service is relatively quick , however sometimes the pots are a longer wait - the team is pretty good with making suggestions as there menu is large and can be a little overwhelming. However, English is hit or miss here - so you may sometimes encounter language barriers.
Some of my favs I always like to get here are -
- Lamb pots of course / spicy is best, however there is clear broth options!
-Chicken Pretzer (fried chicken knee)
-oh the skewers are also a must try - cumin lamb
-also liked the fried rice -
Will re-visit again of course
Worst experience ever! Prepare to ruin your day if you dine in here!
The parkade is a mess! And your vehicle will be blocked by their employee’s.
Service spirits is zero!
Good place to eat lamb and BBQ.
Amazingly tasty lamb centric dishes! I highly recommend any of the lamb hot pot dishes available here. Strong aromatic flavour and a nice portion of lamb. Basically all the main dishes here are lamb based so just bear that in mind. Otherwise, come check this out and dig in! Good pricing and decent service.
It's so outrageous, it's so outrageous... I went to order a takeaway this evening and ordered a griddle-pot sausage. When I got home and ate the sausage, I found that there were still large chunks of smelly fat left in their sausage. TM actually retained a part of it, so big and smelly. It’s so outrageous. I retched until now. It’s so disgusting...?? Can you please clean up the fat intestines before using them for cooking? How can there be such a thing?

Hole in a wall spot that specializes in lamb. The lamb skewers were flavorful and juicy. The lamb bun is really filling! Would come back and try other dishes. The menu is super heavy and huge though ?

I ordered 牙签羊肉 (a type of lamb dish where it's like tiny lamb belly on toothpicks, barbecued and covered in spicy). What came was completely inedible and a wrong dish. It became like giant chunks of lamb meat as if it were kentucky fried chicken pieces. The restaurant insisted that the dish name was just a name and it's not supposed to include toothpicks nor that style of cooking. It's like if you order BBQ lamb but got deep fried lamb. It's just completely a mess.

My first visit to this restaurant on or about May 10, 2024 . Two of us were looking for a place to eat along Kingsway (by Joyce) and came upon this restaurant. I always like lamb so thought we should give it a shot. The time was around 6:30 pm. The place had a lot of tables to choose from and there were about 4 - 5 other tables seated with diners. We were given a table right away for 2 near the entrance. The menu was large in size (14" x 12" ) with lots of photos. I was quite impressed by the extensive menu and the many photos...it was hard to choose what to eat as everything looked delicious. We picked 3 dishes, and some plum drink.
I was surprised that some of the customers spoke Cantonese and the staff, too. I am a first generation Canadian Chinese (CBC) Cantonese speaker so was glad to hear the language as most of the restaurants in the area spoke Mandarin. Of course, they also spoke fluent English.
Anyhow, we ordered the
*Signature Whole Lamb soup
*Handbag (stir fried cabbage (a slightly spicy) and very delicious dish
*Grilled Chicken Gizzard skewer - Note: you have to order a minimum of 5 skewers (see notes below on skewers)**
1 bowl of rice
2 plum syrup drinks
(**They have bunch of different types of meat skewers, however, for each type, you do have to order a minimum of 5 skewers for that one item so we did not order any the other skewers as it would be too much for 2 people. On our next visit, we'll try a different meat skewer. )
Everything was served relatively quickly and was very tasty.
I would be interested in coming back to try the other items because the service, food quality, tastiness, and ability to get seated without reservations was worth the visit. However, it was during the Canucks playoffs, so not sure if that is why the area was not as busy. If you are the type that wants to get a table, you might try making a reservation.
ps. if you can't find parking along Kingsway or side streets, you can try Safeway. We parked at Safeway and walked over since we had shopping to do there. There should be spots along Kingsway with metered street parking and free parking on side streets (watch the signs as some are half for residential ) . London Drugs also has a parkade but it is usually full due to Sumo Grill and a Pho restaurant.
Give this place a try...I think you will like it.
Parking: Try finding parking along Kingsway and free side streets. We shopped at Safeway, so ended up parking there and walked over. In the evenings, there should be more spots along Kingsway (metered). There is also parking at London Drugs, but spots are more cramped.
Kid-friendliness: I think all Asian restaurants are kid friendly so I suppose this would be as well. Certainly, the menu has a lot of choices so the kids would love it.
Wheelchair accessibility: The entrance is level with sidewalk and after you enter the door, there is enough space to wheel a chair in. The interior dining area is set up so there is has plenty of place to maneuver (eg. tables are spaced out so not jammed.). You can check out other reviewers' photos which shows the layout. I think it would be easily to get a table with space for a wheel chair to be rolled up to it. I did not check out the bathroom so cannot comment.
