Immensely enjoyed our first visit. Excellent food and outstanding service from Peter. He recommended great wine pairings for each course. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Had the best solo dinner at the bar. Recommend the tasting menu. Shout out Delilah for the recommendations!

Yum yum and yum. Don’t leave without having the chicken liver toast. Everything is good here, though, and a good price.

A phenomenal meal at Gary’s! They were kind enough to accommodate a walk-in and offered me half portions of their set menu (for a solo diner; set menu typically offered to tables of 2+ diners). Priced at $73 it’s an absolute bargain! Very generous and includes 2 snacks, a salad, a starter, 2 mains and a dessert. The menu is concise and very European, think elevated bistro food executed to the highest degree. Every dish was delicious and well thought out, not a single bad dish on the menu.
The room is bright and airy during the day and romantic dim lit in the evening, and the open kitchen is a joy to watch. The service is impeccable and warm without being stuffy and pretentious.
Truly well-deserved Michelin recognition, by far the best Bib Gourmand-awarded restaurant in the city, and honestly offers a dining experience that is far superior to most one star restaurants. Will definitely be back!

We ordered a la carte instead of their menu for the table since we wanted to try specific items off the menu instead. The Kanpachi, chicken sausage and sticky toffee pudding were the highlights of the night. We also order the beef carpaccio, Yorkshire pudding and pork cheeks that night. Would definitely come back as their menu changes often.

We were lucky enough to make a reservation before they received their Michelin. They earned it just a few days before our visit, which made us even more excited to go. All the dishes that looked simple showed a noticeable difference in the finer details, which I loved. I found the beef pot-au-feu a bit bland and overly simple, and overall the portion sizes were on the smaller side. However, since the flavors were not overpowering, I was personally quite satisfied.
Despite the small interior, the space never felt distracting or uncomfortable for conversation—though I suppose it also depends on who you’re seated next to. If they continue to develop more creative and innovative dishes, I would certainly consider visiting again.

I had high expectations going into Gary’s given the strong reviews, but unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience overall.
We chose not to do the prix fixe menu because there were specific dishes we wanted to try, and many of the items overlapped anyway, so it likely wouldn’t have changed the experience since we ended up ordering three appetizers, two entrees, and two drinks.
The only enjoyable dish we had was the half order of bread. The appetizers were rather underwhelming. We ordered the kanpachi and beef carpaccio. Both were tiny and weirdly tart, to the point where the flavors felt unbalanced rather than refined. The lingcod was dry and surprisingly small for $36. The spaetzle with pork cheek was also a very small portion for $46, and the pork had an overly strong, funky flavor that was difficult to enjoy. We even overheard the table next to us expressing the same concern amongst themselves. Overall, the seasoning and presentation across the dishes was very average. Items were either overly vinegary, hardly seasoned beyond salt and pepper, or drowning in broth or vinaigrette.
The most disappointing part, however, was the service. There was an oddly cold, almost pretentious energy from the staff. When I asked about the menu, the server answered while looking past me instead of engaging directly, which felt dismissive. This happened several times throughout the night. The only time the server seemed attentive was when presenting the bill, which came across as insincere and disingenuous. We skipped dessert here and went elsewhere to salvage the evening.
For the price point and reputation, this visit did not live up to expectations. Vancouver has many excellent dining options, and unfortunately this will not be one I return to.

I enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly staff. The food elements of each dish are thoughtfully paired to work extremely well together.
I highly recommend you make a reservation as the space is small and usually full.
What an absolute fantastic meal, and Bailey made us feel so welcome. I will highly recommend Gary's to anyone looking for a wonderful culinary experience in Vancouver.

One of the better meals I've had in a long time. Set dineout menu, which was very well thought out and every dish was done well. Negroni was exceptional.

Everything was absolutely delicious! My partner and I chose the Dine Out menu, and every dish was excellent.
The fish appetizer, the salad, and the cod, perfectly seasoned, not too salty. We absolutely loved the pork.
And the highlight of the evening: the chocolate mousse. A classic, yet surprisingly delightful.
A huge thank you to our server Peter who made the experience even better — kind, attentive, and professional. A wonderful dinner from start to finish. We will definitely be back!
Many thanks from the Basques.

We were really excited to go to Gary's!
It was always busy and felt like it was going to be a great meal.
The service was great and the atmosphere was also awesome.
The food itself was pretty meh , I expected it to be better for the price. Was also expecting something different but nothing really stood out outside of the desert.

Been wanting to try Gary’s for a while and finally made it. Food was good but not out of this world. Portions are on the smaller side given the price. Desserts were really good especially the chocolate mousse and sticky toffee pudding (they should have this year round). Our server Peter was fantastic.

We visit the restaurant with excitement due to the high reviews however the dinning experience tonight is very disappointing.
1. It is a small restaurant that trying to fit a lot of tables. Chairs are hard wood chairs. Very uncomfortable.
2. We did not order the price fixed menu and was told each person is suggested to order at least 3 dishes. We asked if we can switch the ala carte to set menu if we need more food. The answer is no. No flexibility is offered.
3. Tea serves in an open glass pot which can get cold easily. Also we were not advised that the tea can be refilled until quite late of dinner.
4. Out of the 7 dishes we feel only the trout and chicken livers paste are okay. The rest are quite heavy handed in salt despite they said they will not add additional salt.
5. The steak is done reverse seared and we were never asked about how do we like our steak. It came recut into 7 pieces - the three pieces at the ends of both sides are awfully overcooked like medium well. We reflected this feedback and the server did not apologize immediately but to argue with us. Despite they offered to redo the dish, we lost our appetite given the poor service. And they still charge the full price of the steak - no discount even 3/7 are chewy.
6. We did not order dessert but I guess that’s how they want to make up. Ironically the dark chocolate mousse is the best dish for the night.
7. Open kitchen - it’s one thing for open kitchen to connect with customers, without good ventilation is a big no no. I feel all my clothes and hairs are so smelly that I need to take a second shower to wash my hair to get rid of the stuffy eyes odour. Don’t wear clothes you can’t wash to this restaurant.
Overall - food is quite salty and it’s a one size fits all menu. Definitely a far from happy dining experience and definitely will not visit again.
