service and the atmosphere is really good, but felt the food lacking and not particularly stand-out, especially given the price. we paid for the chef’s selection & got to taste almost all of the dishes, but none that really landed with us.

the food combinations are interesting but not sure they go together personally. If you were going to get something, you could try the nectarine tomato salad (refreshing but a little too sour & the shiso felt out of place), tuna crudo (interesting but the crunch from the hazelnut takes away from sashimi texture) the and the flan for dessert.

Probably the best meal I’ve ever had. The service was fantastic (Peter), each dish was fantastic and flavourful and it was quiet and intimate space. Highly recommended

Do you want to experience vancouver? Go to Gary's. This little place is exactly what vancouver is all about. The food was fresh and local. The staff was a amazing, I felt like family. The decor is just perfect. If you haven't been there yet, get there quick before the wait list is months long.

Delicious food, creative and interesting cooking. Very enjoyable experience. We ordered the sampling course which covers most, if not all, of their signature dishes.

Celebrated a friend’s birthday here and were so impressed! The team even made a personalized card for her, which was such a thoughtful touch. The service was attentive, friendly, and everything we tried from the menu was delicious. Highly recommend for a special occasion or just a great meal!

I was lucky to have Gary's in my neighborhood while in Vancouver. I went there twice: food was amazing, and service even more. Ingredients come first in a magistral balance. Cheers!

This was one of those meals where you don’t talk because you’re just smiling at each other because everything tastes so good.

Exceptional food, wine, service, and vibe - we will be back again and again and again.

We’ve been to Gary’s several times now and we have enjoyed it every time. The food has flavours I’ve never tasted before while also reminding me of home cooking. It’s the best of both worlds in a cozy and warm setting. Cannot wait to go back again!

Gary’s is a neighborhood restaurant in the heart of South Granville with an open kitchen with shareable dishes that define the menu having seasonality influence. Service is friendly and relaxed for casually refined European food. It had been recognized in 2023 as one of the best new restaurants in the country in 2024, winning a Bib Gourmand from Michelin and Best Neighborhood Wildcard for Vancouver Magazine's Readers' Choice Awards, 2025.

There is street parking around but not in front until 7 pm on weeknights.

Rye Rolls with an herb butter fluffy with some chew to them. The salt on top really added a flavourful crunch. Loved the butter as it was whipped until airy.

Beef tartare with King James Blue, chicory was buttery and didn't require much chewing.  It was visually appealing and tasted fresh.  With intermittent pops of nutty saltiness, the stilton also added body and creaminess to the tartare.  There was some crunch from the chicories, but overall, the whole mixture was pretty soft.  Seasoning was mild with a good balance of salty, sweet and tang.  Loved the house-made potato chips they were thin and crispy.

Specials are based on surprise offerings from local farmers is what our server told me during my visit earlier this week.

IMO seating is a bit tight for tables of 2, even for intimate dining to accommodate the plate sizing.

The value for money is good for the quality and execution of the meal offered with an unpretentious vibe.

Reservation definitely recommended as it is a small establishment.

WOW — such an amazing experience here! The food was so generously crafted and delicious, plus the service was top notch. Everyone was so sweet and the arrival of each plate was perfectly timed.

We started off with the rye rolls + cowboy butter as well as the little gem salad. Great way to start the meal — the butter that was paired with the rolls had such an incredible flavor, and on a similar note the little gem (which resembled a cob) packed a wonderful punch between the blue cheese and bacon inclusion. Had a cucumber + mussels in green juice which was so incredibly refreshing and was perfectly acidic — I do however almost wish that it had been served as the very first course. The jalapeño chicken sausage w/ grilled broccoli was easily the best dish of the night — I could drink that cheese sauce it was so insanely good. Although the demi glace + cherry tomato wasn’t my favorite pairing with the buvette, the steak itself was cooked to absolute perfection so I really cannot complain. The fries were definitely a specific style (very thin and somewhat soggy?) and definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, however I personally loved them and the dijonnaise was to die for. Lastly, we ended off with the chocolate mousse which was the absolute perfect way to end the meal. Quite rich in flavor however light on the stomach. Having it paired with the bergamot cream, almonds, and sea salt was such an insane move — truly a match made in heaven.

I absolutely LOVE the entire concept of this place with the rotating seasonal + local menu. It is so incredibly worth it and I couldn’t recommend enough. The place itself is quite small (but charming!) so I would def recommend making a reservation. Do note that it is also only suitable for singles, couples, or small groups. I truly cannot wait to come back and try some of their other menus in the future!
