Love this place! Food is outstanding, service is friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere. Definitely an authentic cultural experience.
Fantastic service and delicious food! The kimchi rice is so good, full of flavour and just the right amount of spice. I reserved a window spot and we got sat at the bar by a big party that was really loud. But the excellent service and food made up for it.
I'm a big fan of Guu and have been for over a decade. Guu Thurlow is usually a pretty safe bet (if you can find space). This time, however, three of the items wanted to order off the specials menu were sold out (octopus carpaccio, jellyfish on tofu, and steamed mussels). As well, the sashimi we ordered was not quite up to Guu's usual standards as far as freshness and quality - every piece just tasted a little more fishy than we were expecting. The Yellowtail Carpaccio was also just OK. Combined with recent price increases, we're beginning to reconsider Guu as our Izakaya of choice. We'll still go back as we're hoping this experience was one-off, but are beginning to get concerned.
Our go to spot when visiting Vancouver. The food and service are always great. They never miss the mark. Will be back again.
The house special Kimchi fried rice is not to be missed! Energetic staff, great food and fair prices make this Guu a fun dine-out.
Great value for excellent Japanese cuisine. Service was prompt and attentive, and they worked to accommodate our 10 person group!
We came late on a Friday and were happy to find a seat right away. It was a lovely meal.

We had assorted oden and kimchi fried rice, both are very good. The price is very reasonable and the portion size is generous. The atmosphere is that of a Japanese izakaya. Very nice. I forgot to take photos of the food but just know it’s guud ?

This is my safe place in entire Vancouver. The first day I came here was a couple of years ago and I was in a pretty low mood. I came here and the atmosphere really lifted my mood. The food was beyond my expectations. Since then it has become my overall favourite in entire Vancouver. I cannot describe how lovely the staff are, how great and unique the marination and food taste is and how uplifting and feel-good the atmosphere is. Having this place around has been mentioned in my gratitude journal. I LOVE this place and their staff

The lively atmosphere of a Japanese izakaya?
Very satisfied with the food and service
Only parking is really expensive and hard to find
Also the price is still on the high side?

The restaurant is small and cramped but that is what adds to its charm and character. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and the food is always authentic, unique and on point. I have been coming to this location for years and it is one of my favourite restaurants in the city.
