Visiting from Toronto and our kids brought us here as it is their favourite restaurant. Had a wonderful dinner. Not inexpensive but made for a very nice night out.

I normally don’t find myself irritated at service staff or even language barriers but after I called to figure out what was happening with my existing order they couldn’t understand hardly a word of English and kept thinking I was trying to make a new order. I tried so hard to find out if the food had been made already and if I could just pick it up myself. I ostensibly had food that was already made and ready to go but that our door dasher had failed to pick up. I found out from DoorDash shortly after that the restaurant confirmed to them that it was ready. It just felt like the person I had talked to had no desire to figure out what I was asking or calling about. If I could have talked to a manager I imagine that might have helped but I couldn’t even get that far.

I would add that this far from the first time I’ve ordered delivery or been in. Sometimes the communication isn’t the best but generally it’s been alright and the food is consistently good. I would still recommend going for dine in but maybe avoid ordering take out, especially through DoorDash…

Their lunch special is always a good bang for your buck and the food here is always mouthwateringly delicious. However, I’ve noticed the portion sizes shrink significantly compared to before. The umakara ribeye looked like someone stole half of it before serving (it’s the browner looking one in the photo). They seem to compensate by giving you a generous portion of rice though!

I had an amazing experience at Gyu-Kaku thanks to the incredible service from our server, Shandesh. He was kind, friendly, and professional throughout one of the best servers I’ve ever had! Even when we brought our own wine and needed to pay a corkage fee, he handled it with such grace and made us feel completely welcomed. The food was delicious as always, but the service truly elevated the entire evening. Manager David was also very kind and attentive, and it’s clear the team works well together to create a warm, enjoyable atmosphere. Shandesh’s serving skills and positive energy made this one of the best dining experiences I’ve had highly recommended! GYU-KAKU.

One of the Best Japanese BBQ Experiences in Vancouver 🔥🇯🇵

Gyu-Kaku never disappoints! The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with energy, great smells, and a vibe that makes you want to stay. The grill-your-own meat experience is super fun, and everything from the kalbi to the garlic noodles is next-level tasty.

Perfect for dates, small groups, or even solo foodies. The portions are generous, the staff is fast and friendly, and the sauces? Unreal. Definitely get the happy hour set if you want value.

Highly recommend for anyone craving a fun, flavorful night out!

Half the tables have electric cookers. The food does not taste good on electric. We couldn't finish our meal. This is not communicated before eating there. Used to love this place, but what a bad decision.

We had the best experience at Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ! Unfortunately we have complicated allergies to work around and our needs were met above and beyond. Our server Sheldon was wonderful! He was very thorough going to the menu and checking for allergens and he double checked with the chefs. They were able to make a few substitutions and custom solutions for marinades. Everything was delicious! We will definitely recommend Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ to our friends! Thank you!

I really enjoyed this meal experience! We found that a set menu for 4 was more than we needed, but if you're really hungry I think you can manage. Beer and grilled meats? I'll be back!

Affordable and delicious. I always leave here way too full!

We had a reservation for 1045pm, they accepted the reservation and even called us to ask if we can order our food over the phone so it's ready when we show up which was fine and said we have 2 hours to eat. It's not even 1130 and the waiter came to the table and got us to pay which was fine but not even 2 minutes later another worker came up almost yelling and very rude saying we need to hurry up and leave. We said the the restaurant policy even says 2 hours he said he doesn't care and started grabbing the food with his bare hands so we got up and left after a full on confrontation that should never have happened. It was a yelling match. They even grabbed my friend and shoved him.

I'm sorry that the photo of the raw meat doesn't look good, but I forgot to take other photos while eating it It's a very delicious Japanese barbecue (after all, barbecue is hard to taste) and the price is very affordable! Suitable for a stroll to eat when wandering around gastown and Canada place

Went there for celebration, ordered food around 7:20 for $250 value meal and other items.
We were 9 people, however they kept serving us one dish at a time(almost every 20min)
We were so excited to see all the menu that we ordered on our table with presentation as great as picture. But there was nothing like that.
Our server was too busy so we had to ask the other server "when is rest of our food coming? It's been another 20min" and he said "I will ask your server"
Don't you guys know how to apologize to the customers for the inconvenience?
I even talked to the manager about the situation he said he would check, but he never came back to our table for another 20min so I had to walk to him and talk
He said he understood the situation but never said sorry, and he said he was gonna bring our Vegetable(which was ridiculous because we were almost end of our meal)and rest of our meal.
And I said you should've mentioned it when you said you were going to check the situation and he kept saying the restaurant was too busy
Well it's not my problem that you guys are busy or not. We were there for our special occasion, and we tried to understand but the attitude and keeping making an excuse didn't help our situation better.
I asked him to re-visit our table with out server to at least say "sorry" then he followed me to our table and said sorry.
We ended up not paying 18% tips, and got 15% for our food but we were already so disappointed
If you are ever planning to go there for special say 100% do not recommend.

The food is tasty and reasonable for the price point but the service is horrendous.

Our group of six came in for a birthday party and we had to continually track down servers throughout the whole dinner to help us with things like extra plates, new chopsticks, turning down the flames of the grill, etc. And half the time when we did ask for things they would forget or misunderstand and do the opposite. Definitely ruined the whole dining experience.

Even towards the end when we were going to cut the cake, we had to get up from our table to ask them to clean it (where it inevitably came to me stacking all the plates to one side for them) and for extra plates. After a few minutes they did give us the extra plates but didn’t bother getting us forks lol

Definitely don’t foresee myself coming back here which is disappointing.
