Amazing food and value especially for lunch. Sushi and sashimi are so fresh. Karaage is amazing. Tempura soooo light and crispy. Generous portions. Food made with love. Nice service too. Thanks!

20$ for all this delicious food

This place feels like a Temu version of 'Raisu' but at the similar price point. I think I went in with too much expectation after hearing a lot of good things, but my experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. I ordered the teishoku set—it was adequate, not bad, but nothing memorable. Honestly, I think you could easily make this quality of food at home, and there are plenty of better Japanese options nearby. Yet, the price is on the higher side, and portion sizes are just okay. The food reminded me of the early 2010s when Vancouver’s Asian food scene was still developing. On top of that, the server forgot the onsen egg I had added, even though it wasn’t particularly busy. While the atmosphere is clean and pleasant, both the food and service leave much to be desired.

We moved into the neighborhood recently and decided to try Hachibei and now we go ALL THE TIME. When we have people over we will also take them there to eat. The food is delicious and is worth what you pay for. I love all the dishes the mains come with. It’s a small place so calling in advance is recommended.

highly variable; a few dishes are good, overall mediocre. Not easy to do japanese food well. they fail, including the tempura and seaweed salad. the ginger thin sliced beef, served lukewarm, was good reheated but should not have needed to be sent back. kitchen juggling take away and in restaurant customers

Wonderful hole in the wall, not super busy but consistent flow of people for eat in and take out.
I ordered the ginger pork and it was perfect. Great portion, great sides.
Definitely thr only sushi place I've seen potato salad on the menu. The table next to me ordered green tea ice cream and it came on a taiyaki and looked fantastic.

Would go back again.

Yummy sushi! It was my first time trying Hachibei. Everything tastes good from tuna sashimi, Spicy Prawn Roll, to Salmond terriyaki combination, or miso soup. Their tea was decent too, $2 per pot. Easy parking, 2 hours parrking in front of the restaurant. This place is small but packed, seems like a hidden gem 😊

It’s a small cozy Japanese restaurant famous in bento box. The value and food quality is at it’s 90’s. The most famous bento is black cod and it’s limited to one order for each table only.

Seafood Tempura and sashimi don are on the daily special menu. It’s a surprise that the tempura were done in 3 different style and 3 different sauce for dipping. Not only the quality, its only $27. Tempura included two prawns, aji, salmon and eel.

Sashimi don is salmon, toro and uni costs only $32.

No wonder it’s full house all the time

The food was ok, but I was expecting more to be honest. Service was good.

The bento lunch deals are a crazy deal. Good variety and feels healthy

The $20 bbq unagi stone rice is highly recommended! However, the Japanese katsu curry is mediocre as the curry isn’t as sweet as I’d hoped for and the cutlet is rather dry. The portion for the sushi roll is huge but the flavour is overwhelming.
It’s crowded during our time of visit and no one has come to serve us water/tea for 20mins, which is understandable but do hope they can improve this in the future. All in all, would go back for the unagi and to try the black cod.
