Always love coming to Hanai, their menu is always different, and their drinks are on point. Highly recommended.

I have no idea how this restaurant was recommended by Michelin. They have maybe 10 items on their menu, and when we went (around 7pm), they had already ran out of two, leaving us with very few options to choose from. In addition, their plates are SO small. There was no mention to us by the server about this so we assumed the main dishes would fill us up. We spent $130 and literally walked to a nearby restaurant to grab a burger after because we were still hungry. The food wasn’t good at all either. We got the squid and the fish steak. The squid had WAY too much garlic in it and the fish steak tasted like a cheap cut of fish. Overall, the worst $130 we’ve ever spent on food.
Just what Vancouver needed! Real Island food - such a comfy meal. And expertly paired with sake makes for a perfect dinner!
Food and service are both outstanding! One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Vancouver

This burger was so good that if it was unleashed it may put all burger spots out of business.
The squid would turn a vegetarian into a pescatarian.
Creative and delicious Hawaiian inspired cuisine. Excellent service, cool soundtrack. Warm atmosphere. I recommend the Ohana menu which changes daily.
Super inventive and delicious food. Super kind staff and a really cute space with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. Wonderful bar too!

A real hidden gem in Vancouver (word is getting out quick though). Food, drinks, and service is all next-level. A very engaging meal.

Varied and unique tasting menu. Worth a detour. Highlights: fresh baked (still steaming) purple yam bread, kamaboko dip, marinated chicken.
Hanai is always delicious! The room is beautiful, the service is warm and friendly and the food is always on point. Plus never pass on the fried mochi!

Gave this place a shot since it made the Michelin Guide, and I hate to say that I don’t really know how it made it on the guide. Vancouver is a hub for Foodies - so the local standard is high. This fell short of our expectations. We ordered a cocktail each, and the Ohana Menu ($60pp Chefs Tasting Menu). They ran out of passionfruit to make our feature cocktail and just made an ingredient substitution to lime for us - it wasn’t great. The Pog was a delicious cocktail though. We arrived for a 7pm seating, but didn’t leave until 10:05pmPositives:- The food is unique, and the intention behind each dish (story) was more memorable than the food itself.- The food was cooked well, and tasted goodNegatives:- Service is way too slow. They did mention at the start that they only have 2 chefs. Suggestion to limit seating if you cannot handle the headcount… We had to rush our server towards the end.
