I do not recommend. Went on Father’s Day knowing it would likely be busy and to be patient with longer waits. Unfortunately an hour and 15 minutes until we got our food was beyond reasonable. Worse is that we were ignored almost the entire time. After 30 minutes since ordering, server still hadn’t come by our table. Had to get up from our table to ask for coffee refill. Then noticed people who arrived and ordered long after us, received their food. Finally got our meals and food was extremely disappointing. Hash-browns were dry and bland, food was cold, over easy eggs were overcooked and zero yoke. None of us were pleased with our meals.
Not at any point did any staff seem apologetic and no offer of any discount or comp.
Overall terrible experience. I didn’t go but family said the bathrooms were really gross too. Stay away.
Helen's is such a feel good brunch spot - the food is always what you want and the service so friendly - my favorite!
We like to go here for weekend brunch. Has a nice neighborly feel.
Solid diner. Slower paced.
Old school goodness
Found Helen's Grill on Google because we were looking for American food near the Botanical Garden. Walked in to a diner style place with mini jukeboxes at the tables. I asked our waiter what they were known for and he recommended the club sandwich because they make their own turkey and the Reuben because the meat came from Montreal. Both were excellent and exceeded our tastebuds satisfaction! Nick, our waiter and now owner, was very friendly as he and my husband chatted about sports (Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs) and even gave us quarters for the jukebox which we didn't get a chance to use because we ate and talked more about local sights to visit, a brief history about the restaurant, and the different movies the restaurant has been featured in. We definitely recommend this place and would love to visit again next time we're in Vancouver! Nick, let us know when you're coming to San Antonio, would love to reciprocate the hospitality.
The portions are large. You'll get your money's worth here.
The place could use a refresh but otherwise the food and service were above par

A blast from the past, remembering Bert's & the Slocan while having a fine breakfast on a busy corner.

70's style restaurant. Great atmosphere and service ?
Breakfast potatoes are the highlight of my breakfast ratings. I needed a seasoning or taste value added such as onions. Busy place, so obviously a favorite.

A classic East Vancouver restaurant that has been there since 1961. I usually order the all day breakfast and coffee while sitting at a window booth and enjoy watching the bustle of people. You have to sit in a booth that still has a mini booth jukebox on the table. For .25$ you can enjoy a song.
Parking: There is plenty of paid street parking but free parking if you don't mind walking a block or so
Kid-friendliness: I noticed highchairs available

Nick remembered us as soon as we walked in. He takes a genuine personal interest in his customers & shares his own stories. Such a nostalgic diner in every aspect. His food is incredibly delicious and massive portions!
We 3 enjoyed a Turkey Club, a BLT & a Patty Melt. Thankyou Nick!!
