Was so lovely! This is our go to date spot. Only complaints are we ordered 12 oysters and they gave us 10 and we had to say something. We also ordered a 40 dollar glass of wine and they didn't tell us anything about the wine. For a wine bar you'd think they'd have a back story and something fun to share with their coravin wines. All in all we had a great time and sat at the bar which was interactive and fun.
The restaurant was very hard to find. The food was truly exquisite. The waitress was a bit snide, which always puts me off. She said, “as I already mentioned .... when we asked a question about why something was served first and then she said it again about another question. We were just curious and not complaining in any way. Also we found the seating to be rather uncomfortable.
super amazing as always, good wine + good oysters - the linguine and foie gras parfait also out of this world.
This is a little gem! Awesome food and service. Was reluctant to post and give away the secret..,but I think it's out!
I booked because of live music night but seemed like they cancelled on the day. Service was very slow and hamachi wasn't good with chili oil. Also one corner piece was not cooked well. My friend was highly recommended but my friend and I were disappointed. Moved to another restaurants as we didn't want to end our final night in town with this experience. Interior was very cool.
Service was excellent! Our server knew her wines and made us feel like regulars, even though it was our first time there. We were two older ladies, and the youthful, hip vibe made us feel a bit younger for a few hours. The Boursin stuffed olives with hot honey were amazing, as were the shashito peppers with coffee emulsion, and the green faro with oxtail and bone marrow custard was beautiful. My only disappointment was that the charred halibut was just a hair overdone, and the high legged, low backed barstool was a bit scary for this old lady with bad knees. I will request a bench seat next time. This would not have been any problem for the majority of patrons, I'm sure. The Basque cheesecake though......I would go back just for the cheesecake. The taste and texture were beyond perfect. It might just be the best cheesecake I have ever had. I didn't catch the name of our server, but she was top-notch. A great couple of hours. Thanks.
Excellent gem - the food is excellent and the vibe is awesome. Servers are very helpful and the wine is outstanding.
Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish! The food was nothing short of phenomenal—each dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. Our waitress was exceptional: warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the wine list. She guided us to the perfect pairings with ease and enthusiasm. The wine selection itself was thoughtfully curated, offering something for every palate. The atmosphere was equally impressive—elegant yet relaxed, with just the right energy to make the evening feel special. Whether you're there for a romantic night out, a celebration, or simply great food and wine, this place delivers on all fronts. 10/10 for service, ambiance, and culinary excellence. We'll definitely be back!
We love this wine bar! It was put first time there and the food, wine and service was perfection! Our server Azzy was the best, she suggested lovely wine and oysters! We will definitely be back!
I really recommend visiting this restaurant if you live in Vancouver or if you are visiting and are at all interested in French food. Forget greasy croque-monsieurs and mall crêpes or other "French" tourist traps, "Is That French" has real food with inspired flavors and great execution. It was like being back home, eating in Montréal's best small restaurants. Fresh, high quality ingredients were obvious to us who are used to it, we are pretty picky in that department. We both work in the industry so we were delighted to be served in such friendly but professional manner, it's getting rarer and rarer to experience this these days. It was nice to meet the owner, too!

Cute spot for wine & snack. Must get their beef tartare.
Stellar and witty servers will keep you satisfied. Good wine, good conversation spot since it’s not too loud. The cheesecake is delicious
My friend and I had the BEST experience at Is that French. The food was incredible, the olives are a must try (we ended up getting three orders for two people), and the overall vibe of the place was perfect. Our server Taylor was also exceptional. She was attentive, knowledgeable, fun, and all around some of the best service I’ve ever received. I have been to a number of Michelin star restaurants and Is that French might be one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! Can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you Taylor and the rest of the staff for making it such an unforgettable experience!
I ordered five dishes. Only the parfait was truly good — it was the best part of the meal. The other dishes were just average, nothing special, but still edible. However, the shrimp dish was absolutely terrible — it was so fishy that it was inedible. Despite clearly leaving food on the plates, none of the staff asked why. I won’t be coming back.
Servers were very kind and helpful! Food and wine were excellent 👌
