I ordered a sashimi box and the composition was amazing. The composition and taste were amazing for the price. The newly renovated atmosphere of the store was very clean and comfortable. I was impressed by the warm welcome of the staff and the jazz music was really good.

We became regulars in this restaurant. Food options (Japanese and Koran) are always great and freshly made and served! Staff are very friendly and polite. They have a loyalty program so make sure you grab the loyalty card along with the discount card.

I loved this place! Usually when I eat at one of these sushi places it's good but doesn't leave a big impression, but Kakai actually impressed me. Not that it's super fancy food, but it was the simple stuff that you go to a sushi restaurant for in the first place done right.
I got the vegetables box: agedashi tofu and stir-fried veggies in teriyaki sauce, assorted vegetable tempura, mushroom tempura, veggie gyoza, salad, miso soup, and rice. It looked like a lot of deep-fried food but honestly I didn't really notice it as I was eating - usually I feel kind of gross after I eat a bunch of deep-fried stuff but that didn't happen here. I liked the slightly different assortment of food than the typical veg bento, like the mushroom tempura and squash in the salad, and the serving of veggies in the stir fry was a lot more substantial than average, with a huge pile of teriyaki veggies. It was a lot of food and it was all good!
The menu prices look pretty good all around. The vegetables box was $19.5 (before tax) for, again, a ton of food. If you're looking for something really affordable, at the time I visited (late July 2025), they had a takeout-only item, the Kakai bowl, which is teriyaki protein of your choice and veggies over rice, for just $9.5 or something like that.
The other touches that made the experience so nice were the friendly staff and the nice decorations and tableware. One of the plates in my box had cat ears and another one had animal faces that I discovered after cleaning the food off it. I thought that was so cute. Lots of other little cute posters and other decorations were strewn around the restaurant.
Unfortunately I don't live in the area anymore, but this is a place I would make a point of going back to if I did!

I found this place on social media and decided to give it a try today and I have to say, the quality and taste of the sushi is quite good.

I ordered a special yam roll and a dragon roll and both came out quickly. The service is quite good here.

The taste, well the yam roll was probably one of the best I have had, it was nice and crunchy in the middle and I liked that the yam was also placed on top of the sushi roll which made it so much tastier. The dragon roll with the torched eel on top was really tasty and had good flavours. Presentation gets 5/5 for sure, they plate things here with passion and care and I can tell.

The staff were very friendly here and I appreciate that. Good service and good food I’ll definitely come back here and try something else for next time, I am curious about their bento boxes they look delicious. Recommend giving this place a try if you’re in the commercial drive - Vancouver area and looking for a bite to eat.

Update; the lunch set menus are delicious and gigantic. Well worth the price! The beef teriyaki was very good!

I was on a trip through Vancouver with my kids and this was not only the most affordable place we stopped into but the food was delicious and the servers were very warm and welcoming. Unfortunately I didn't take many pictures but the food was beautiful and delicious. Better than any of the sushi restaurants we've been to in quite a while. All of the fish was delicious and fresh and the 3 of us left stuffed without even finishing our meal. We paid less than $50. If I lived in vancouver I would eat here often.

Good food but they put teriyaki sauce on every dish and makes things too sweet. They also play AI music in the restaurant now and it's very noticeable, they should be playing real music, it's really not hard to find on Spotify.

Really like the additions to the menu. This used to be a Korean place, which I still really miss, but they still have lots of Korean options on the menu, so it's pretty much a Japanese/Korean restaurant now. The only thing I really wish they'd bring back from the old place is the beef bulgogi. It was so good, and the new menu doesn't have it.
