Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing staff, amazing atmosphere! Also great for gluten-free, having a full separate menu was very helpful!
Made a 2:15pm reservation for valentines day a week ago and hope to try their valentine's day menu but been told sold out early. Very disappointed.
Pretty good value for money, especially their Fuyu 5 courses. Sashimi is fresh. Stone grill beef tongue is tasty with its sauce. Cocktail is standard. Their chicken karaage is juicy and flavorful.
Great service, relaxed ambiance, and amazing food! We loved the wagyu on hot stone and the truffle carbonara udon - so much so that we came back twice during our visit! Would highly recommend.
Excellent as per usual. The staff is very attentive and the food was very tasty. The only thing that will make the experience better is the range of sushi and sashimi on offer.
Our reservation was for 2:15pm and we know they close and reopen for dinner service. However, we still felt rushed by the staff to order, eat and leave as soon as possible. We noted down that we were celebrating our anniversary, so it was disappointing to feel so rushed and overlooked. The food was good, I think it was just the ambiance and service that dampened the overall experience
Great place to hold small scale gatherings and a good choice for eating a flexible diner. Comfortable and easy going. Love the green salad specifically.
Food is extremely well made and delicious. The portions to price were well worth it. Very polite and attentive staff! I would definitely come back!
Our group had a reservation for lunch though it seemed like a Friday afternoon wasn't really packed for a 2 PM sitting— we were greeted by the host and directed to our table at the corner near the entry. A surprising appy order was the octopus wasabi, it was refreshing to have that while we wait for our main course. My group noted the salmon oshi as to be a bit different and lacking of taste, it contained the yellow Korean pickle which would be great if you enjoyed a certain “crunch” with your oshi. Miso fish combo, the pork bowl, and the udon were lacking in terms of taste, portions were smaller than expected despite some of them missing the ingredient in the name (the uni udon had a hint of uni taste, but not visible). Toward their break between lunch and dinner service, staff was busy and had taken a while to become available for a last call order. Overall, the vibes and location were best enjoyed, it truly felt almost authentic, minus the taste discrepancies.
Kingyo has always been one of my favorite places to visit in the West End, but I was very disappointed this year. I dine there every year and this year, found it much less desirable than my past visits. Everything was "OK" versus the usual "great." The food was fine, but not as delicious or innovative as past visits. it definitely needs a good overall cleaning, fresh paint and some basic upgrades...my chair was both uncomfortable and rickety, the menus themselves are disgusting, and the floor was sticky and super grungy looking. I guess they're not paying as much attention to details as in times past. Someone needs to freshen everything up, and I will look forward to seeing some great improvements next year when I am back!

My husband and I discovered Kingyo a few years ago and now it's our must go to restaurant every time we are in Vancouver. The food is amazing, the service is attentive and everyone is kind. The atmosphere is cool and it feels like you're in Japan for dinner. Everything we have ever ordered has been delicious!
It was my wife's birthday, and the staff surprised us with a dessert at the end. The waitress was very nice to us, and definitely made the experience so much better. The food was amazing as well. I definitely appreciate that the chef explored other cooking styles with Japanese ingredients. It's not everyday that you get to try a scallop and amberjack terrine. Wonderful staff and wonderful flavours.
My parents and I really enjoyed the Christmas lunch special at Kingyo better than any of the Christmas Buffet in Vancouver. Kingyo's lunch special is only 48 dollars with 15 different dishes including tuna, salmon, chicken, pork, crab, ikura, yellow tail, grilled salmon, black cod, and beef tenderloin. Their dessert is also amazing for 10-12$ only. Moreover, everyone I have ever encountered at Kingyo is friendly, warm, and gives amazing services.
Beyond disappointment. Always seeing such a long line-up and difficult to make a reservation. Been there in the past and left with a great memory. This time, no service just serving food. No communication but delay. No professionalism but seeing them using the phone behind the open kitchen bar. Absolutely not visiting ever again.
This restaurant has a ver high rating when it shouldnt. Tables and bathrooms looked unkept and messy and there was a really bad smell around the tables located by the window. Food was unremarkable but service was attentive.
