It was my wife's birthday, and the staff surprised us with a dessert at the end. The waitress was very nice to us, and definitely made the experience so much better. The food was amazing as well. I definitely appreciate that the chef explored other cooking styles with Japanese ingredients. It's not everyday that you get to try a scallop and amberjack terrine. Wonderful staff and wonderful flavours.
My parents and I really enjoyed the Christmas lunch special at Kingyo better than any of the Christmas Buffet in Vancouver. Kingyo's lunch special is only 48 dollars with 15 different dishes including tuna, salmon, chicken, pork, crab, ikura, yellow tail, grilled salmon, black cod, and beef tenderloin. Their dessert is also amazing for 10-12$ only. Moreover, everyone I have ever encountered at Kingyo is friendly, warm, and gives amazing services.
Beyond disappointment. Always seeing such a long line-up and difficult to make a reservation. Been there in the past and left with a great memory. This time, no service just serving food. No communication but delay. No professionalism but seeing them using the phone behind the open kitchen bar. Absolutely not visiting ever again.
This restaurant has a ver high rating when it shouldnt. Tables and bathrooms looked unkept and messy and there was a really bad smell around the tables located by the window. Food was unremarkable but service was attentive.
There’s really no such thing as bad izakaya food, and Kingyo Izakaya is certainly no exception. Their cocktails are quite unique, and the dishes are genuinely delicious. The stone grill is not only tasty but also fun—both the atmosphere and the aroma are absolutely top-notch. In addition, the Tomato Kimchi was surprisingly impressive. I’m really glad we came here to celebrate a birthday, and I appreciate the staff’s thoughtfulness.

Highly recommended! Perfect place for family dinners and special occasions; all the meals we had were delicious, and the seafood dishes were fresh. Good vibes and great service too. We came from Washington to celebrate my Son’s birthday week, we wish that these kinds of izakayas in Washington too…

Highly recommended! Quality of the food and great service were top in the city. Especially Sashimi quality is same as like a Japan. We have ordered 7 dishes all over everything was delicious. Definitely coming back soon
Kingyo was really good. Great, warm and friendly staff. The food is quite good and the tuna sashimi was outstanding. I love the Ebi Mayo too. It was my birthday and I had a good time. It was busy, so make a reservation.

I love this restaurant and I've been a regular since it opened with a SMASH 🥳. I've even made a point of having a few birthday celebrations here, plus feted others. I was sad last night after sharing the place with my friends from far afar, visitors. The place feels run down now and the service has seriously deteriorated. Even presentations of dishes has lost the lovely soul this great nugget on Denman once OG'd. I hope the original owner chef decides to care about the special place he created - one day, sooner rather than later. The corn remains the bomb, but less ...

We went here for a birthday dinner and it was fantastic. Excellent service and really good food. Not very many vegetarian options but what we had was excellent. I had one dish that just didn't work with my palate and they gracefully took it off our tab and asked if I wanted something else. They also brought out a sweet little dessert for the birthday person in our group. Highly recommended, especially for carnivores.
Thought it was just us who went quiet and focused solely on the food. Turns out the couple across from us were the same. That alone says a lot about how good the food is.
Kingyo is slightly pricier than your typical izakaya, but the quality more than justifies it. Portions could be a bit more filling, but overall we were very satisfied. Highlights of the night: uni udon, seafood bibimbap - both were just so so fragrant and umami. The matcha frozen ice cream was a perfect, sweet ending to our meal too.
Will definitely try the bento next

Delicious food, impeccable service. One of my favourite places. My only complaint was that they didn't have that corn appetizer at lunch that they have for dinner! So good. You should go!
High quality Japanese food that as you would expect from vancouvers big chain of Japanese restaurants (raisu, new Fuji, etc).
Known for their lunch bentos. Highly recommend that you call ahead to reserve one if you want to try.
