Came for lunch, loved the food. However one thing that really bothered me is that when paying they have the no tip option barred out, and it seems like they expect a generous tip even when I had not received the miso soup that was supposed to come with my rice bowl. Sucks because the actual food is very enjoyable

Kuma restaurant is run by a friendly Japanese couple. The atmosphere during lunch was perfect for solo lining. I had their Kansai-style seafood okonomiyaki (関西風海鮮お好み焼き) and Japanese green tea for an extra $1.50. They are located on Dunbar Street and can be reached by taking bus 25 — Brentwood Station/UBC.

I loved it.

Family-owned restaurant. The ambiance was cozy and relaxed.
The food was amazing, rich with flavour, and very affordable.

I had a great experience coming here.

The food is really good as a Japanese restaurant in Vancouver, just different than what I have eaten in Osaka, so a bit disappointed. They probably lack of servants so the speed of table cleaning is a bit slower than other restaurants. Also maybe because we went in the later time after dinner. The atmosphere is so calm and I love it.

Had a Bento box and a spicy tuna roll - the spicy tuna roll tasted stale and wasn't at all spicy. I notified the server of this and they explained it was just made and defended the roll.

When we went up to pay they still charged us for the stale roll (which we obviously didn't finish).

I wouldn't come back again.
