Been here a few times now. Unlike most viet joints, this one stands out by specializing in Chicken dishes. Hanoi Chicken particularly. It's really good and comes in a nice straw platter.
They got some pho and some beef dishes but not a whole lot right now. The beef rice dish I tried, the beef was not great.
This place used to be Wonton Saga and if you know that place, it was a little run down inside but the renovations La Chuoi have made have really brightened up the place, replacing all the furniture.
Biggest complaint thus far is lack of attention on the waitering. Every single time Ive been there, tea or water goes unrefilled, sometimes even after direct calling them out for it.
Still though, worth come trying out the chicken.

We had the most amazing experience at La Chuoi Cuisine! I went with my best friend for her birthday, and from start to finish, everything was perfect. We ordered the Banh Xeo, Spring Rolls, and Chicken Pho — and wow, every single dish was bursting with authentic Vietnamese flavors. Fresh, flavourful, and made with so much care.
Harry and his brother Jerry are incredible hosts — warm, friendly, and genuinely passionate about their food. You can feel their pride in every dish, and it truly makes the dining experience special.
If you’re looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine that will wow your taste buds and leave you smiling, La Chuoi Cuisine is a must-visit. We can’t wait to come back!

Took a chance and was not disappointed. The menu is small, this is not your typical expectation. No spring rolls on the menu. We were given a lot of veggies, they were fresh and clean
( no brown spots ). It truly was the biggest Banh Xeo ( worth the price). The Pho Ga broth was not artificial by any means. I would return.

Over priced chicken pho. The dry noods were ok. But not 23$ good. So many other places at better price points and taste. Most of the menu is chicken. If a friend wants to come I wouldn’t say no, but personally I would not come back unless there was other non food reason to.

Chicken out…
This Vietnamese chicken place pretty much replaced Saga Mein, along Kingsway right across the street from Purdy’s chocolate. A couple of people I know spoke highly of it and the ratings are pretty high on social media. So let’s go chick this place out…
Arrived and easily found parking on the street (FYI, don’t park on Kingsway 3-6pm during the weekdays otherwise you’ll get ticketed and towed). Inside was renovated, so any fond memories of a once Chinese restaurant was almost forgotten. By the door was a couple of flies struggling with their last breath to prison break itself (no exaggeration) and along the window sill were a few flies laid motionless (guess they didn’t make it…rip).
After being seated and a quick glance through the menu, here were the food I ordered;
1. Deep fried chicken wings. Unfortunately lack of taste and meat was dry.
2. Beef luc lac with rice. Hmmm.. beef was tough, no flavour besides the taste of excessive oil, rice was dry and cold.
3. Shredded chicken pho with unlaid chicken eggs. Lack of taste and visually wasn’t so appealing, however the unlaid eggs were good.
4. Chicken pho with quarter leg. Okay, let’s be straightforward; old chewy tasteless chicken is just not for me, maybe for certain people, but just not it for me.
5. Oreo milkshake. It really isn’t that hard to blend together a milkshake, kind of a $8 failed in this one.
The atmosphere was quite casual, a little bit too casual. I strongly suggest the dead flies from the entrance and the window sills to be transferred to their burial ground, or economical wise to the garbage can. Sorry but seeing dead flies right in front of me while eating just wasn’t so appetizing, it killed the vibe a bit.
As for the food, it definitely needs quite a bit of improvement in terms of quality and taste especially for the price. Let’s just say the words from foodies hyping up the food here have as much substance and lively truth as the dead flies on the window sills. Plus it wasn’t that busy, only 2 other tables of a group of 2.
Lastly, the service needed to be a little more attentive rather than chitchatting behind the counter. I know a lot of you will say, what do you expect from an Asian or Viet place. Correction, expecting the same as any other places, still hard earn money coming out of the wallet.
P.S. whoever keeps saying this place is opened by a 17 year old and his brother, get the story right. The owner is their mom, she opened this place because according to her, both her sons inspired her to do so because they loved her cooking. These are the words of the mom (the owner) who posted on social media herself. ( freaking foodies, some really try hard to convince you that a cow is actually a chicken with feathers). Yah I don’t appreciate people using the sympathy tactic for marketing a business.
Unfortunately, the food quality just wasn’t it, I am chickening out of this one…

My friend and I decided to try this new restaurant. She ordered the beef pho. The broth was so delicious and there's no msg. We were recommended the signature crepe dish and it delivered. Really enjoyed the fried chicken wings. The sauces were delicious. Will come back again.
Service was superb and food was delicious.

The food is delicious, tastes authentic with a touch of their own unique style! I’m happy with the quality of service as well, the servers were extremely helpful and friendly! I love their Com ga, especially the little fat/ lard they put on top of the rice.

Recently visited Lá Chuối in September 2025 (they took over the location of McKim Wonton Mein Saga). I believe Lá Chuối means banana leaf. They put up a bunch of hand-drawn murals along the windows which are half-cute and half-kitschy.
We had the Deep Fried Chicken Wings with Chef's Special Sauce ($12) - this is not your typical spicy sauce and had a bold flavour to it which contrasted with the savory wings and crispy thin coating. The Fried Spring Rolls ($8) were on the thin side but had a nicely packed filling. Lastly, we had the Hainan Chicken ($21) which was on special that day. We opted for breast meat and I kind of wish we went with the dark meat instead because the breast was a bit dry. It did have a good side of chicken soup tho.
They do a lot of chicken dishes here and we might need to come back to try their pho.
Service was a bit lacking (despite the number of people that seemed to be working that day). There were many empty tables with dirty dishes that needed to be cleared away... this forced us to sit at a table we probably wouldn't have chosen except it was the only one that was clean.

Great food, great service, great decor. The biggest Bánh Xèo I've had in Vancouver. Their menu is different than other Vietnamese restaurants as they have more chicken dishes from free range chicken. Definitely would recommend!

Cozy homey Vietnamese eatery specializing various chicken dishes! They are also famous for their large crepe dish. It was indeed very large(40cm) but light and tasty (liked mung beans inside), and very refreshing with side salad. Good sized drinks were also very good.
